Second PSP Exclusive Downloadable Title Arrives on PlayStation Online Store
by Carlos Bergfeld, Dec 06, 2007 3:56pm PSTSCEE London Studio's song-utilizing music game Beats (PSP) has arrived on Sony's PlayStation Store for PC, not to be confused with Sony's Playstation Store for PS3. The $4.99 game requires 237MB of free space on a PSP's memory stick.
Similar in theory to NanaOn-Sha's Japan- and Europe-only PSone title Vib-Ribbon, Beats creates gameplay based on a user's selected track, stored on the PSP's memory card. The game is the second title exclusively available as a PSP download, the first being Sony Bend's Syphon Filter: Combat Ops (PSP).
The title features both single player and up to four-player ad-hoc multiplayer in both competitive and cooperative versions.

Downloading was kinda slow, and required an install of their "Network Downloader".
The first two songs I tried didn't work (even though they play just fine on the system). The third song ( a ballad) started right up.
Not knowing the rules, I started on easy mode...ballads on easy mode are way too easy - and boring.
I selected a forth song (a dance track) and moved the difficulty to "normal". This is where the fun starts.
I tried several more songs on normal and noticed that the game comes with a folder of music. These songs are pretty good and are somewhat challenging on easy mode.
I can see this game becoming addictive - especially as you try out different songs in your collection.
Definitely worth the $5 I spent.
