RIP Sega hardware. I loved the Dreamcast. In terms of my love for a console, I liked it more than my SNES.

My story about the Dreamcast. Waited in line for a PS2. Didn't get one, so bought the much cheaper Dreamcast the same day and bought a ton of games with the money left over.

Dreamcast was still my favorite system (well, after SNES of course -- but for whom isn't the SNES #1)?

not sure i want a new sega console, but i loved my dreamcast dearly. I know it's not what they are gonna do, but it would be cool if they would re-release the dreamcast as a novelty package set that has like 20 of it's best games included and 2 controllers. I would pay $200 for that. (beats the hell out of ebay prices, jeez)

i told everyone who i knew that was not playing dreamcast cuz they were saving their $$ for the ps2.
i still remember, i was in class when some dude had stayed in line to get one and was "like omg this is so awesome, best game i've ever played" (talking about smugglers run i believe)

i couldn't believe what a pos launch they had and ppl were flocking over it.
seriously, the only system i've every bought at launch is the dreamcast and i'm still bitter that alot of ppl passed on the DC for the ps2 when it could have lasted alot longer.

i still play it but wish i could find a damn broadband adapter, but not for the outrageous prices they are asking for it on ebay

I can't see Sega getting back into hardware. Would they launch a product aimed at current generation-level graphics? They'd be competing with three other platforms 1+ years behind the curve, if they did. OTOH, if they're shooting for the next generation, they're really going to have to work to outdo the X360, if they're going for the hardcore market. And if they're going for more casual users, they'll have to compete with the Wii, which is gangbusters right now in terms of console sales.

No way is Sega getting back into the hardware market with a new console. The market is crowded enough as it is.....but, I *could* see them releasing something like the "Atari Flashback" or a super-cheap DC console that plays DLC. Who knows.

Dreamcast was one of my favorite system. It got me back into heavy console gaming after leaving it in 1984. I so want this to be true. I can imagine a Dreamcast 2 design to be similar to the Wii. Low cost, casual with great gamkes. Still, Sega isn't the company it use to be. Their games just haven't evolved past whatever they were in 1999 for the most part. (their pc line up isn't bad so there is hope)

My gut feeling is this is just some lawyer keeping ip and trademarks up to date and on the books. No new hardware is coming. Don't we have this rumor appearing once a year? Some site gets some info that Sega is returning to the hardware market and we get hyped for a few days and its for nothing?

If this is true, I think its more likely that Sega will come out with a line of cheap dreamcast units that have several built in dreamcast games that you hook to your TV. Sort of like those somewhat cheap atari and genesis units we see at Target, Toys R Us, and Walmart.

I still have my Sega Dreamcast Key CD. Sega knew how to handle the press at that time too. The US launch packages they sent out to editors and stuff were awesome. It had a DC, 4 controllers, 4 VMU's, a keyboard, all the launch games, VGA cable and some other shit. I loved that system. That was my first imported console (before the US one hit).
