Morning Discussion
by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Nov 26, 2007 11:21pm PSTSo yesterday was pretty happening, with an official announcement of Deus Ex 3 (with movie!) and Nintendo's roll out of the Minna no Nintendo channel in Japan. I think in regards to Deus Ex we're all just a little excited to see what direction they're taking the game in. And apprehensive. But mostly excited. So how's that holiday shopping going?

Minecraft for Xbox 360 dev working on 'Adventure' update
Demon's Souls servers extended again
This is my first time participating in the White Elephant phenomena and I am excited. Just to make sure I am doing this right, am I supposed to go through their posts and find nuggets of gold? Should I give him a true White Elephant gift(crap from around da house) and some little cool things? What is the average amount spent on the little extra goodies? And fuck Canada, why you gotta be expensive!
The one thing that scares me is someone reading my post history and really understanding how stupid I am . . . =(
Happy Holidays!

So I have the Daily LOL Pile emailed to my Gmail account, which has the text banners on the side. Thanks to Phil's rant yesterday, it saw that and recommended some banners. Also, http://womensinfidelity.com

Is Sam Adams Triple Bock good? I'm thinking of getting a case, but it's $90.
Anyone aware of a router (i'd guess either linksys or buffalo) that is gigabit port equipped, and has been hacked and supported by 3rd party firmware ie Tomato or DD-WRT? Even better one with wireless N support as well?
Also, regarding gigabit ethernet, am I correct in assuming that not only do your NICs, router and cabling have to be gigabit compatible (ie for cabling, cat5e and up correct?), but basic hubs/switches as well?
Oh and uh, I've read up a little on making your old PC act as a router/firewall... but can I do that, and still be able to use that PC as a file server/downloader etc? Or in order to have an effective router/firewall, does it have to be 100% dedicated?

...and I've fallen in love with this game all over again!
The visuals remarkably stand up great even today. the sarcastic, twisted humour just gets you all horny and being the bad guy for a change just feels delicious.
You know when you tend to install older games again for old times sake and they turn out to be pretty shitty, well this game ain't that. The sounds, variety of creatures, traps, doors, rooms, spells, etc just make me fuzzy inside. Its also so much fun going into your creatures in first person mode....
You guys play it back in the day?

To me, the thing is stunning. The problem is, it's 210 bucks (230 shipped), but oh my... It's so pretty. I doubt that thermal performance or silence could touch the P182 though. Am I insane to really want that over the frys deal? Money is an issue for me, but I could save for awhile and get it. I have a very rare and very beautiful Lian-Li right now, the PC-6099, but I fear that it won't be able to handle the thermal requirements of my new setup.

Can someone explain this: Using UTorrent, if I set my maxium upload to 5KBps my download will crawl at maybe 10-15KBps, however if I set my maxium upload to 10KBps my download immediatelly jumps to super duper fast. Is it some kind of weird quota thing going on? Just weird that 5KBps makes that huge of a difference on download.

How do I take a user's filename input "words.txt" and pass that into another class as a Scanner?
fName = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "Word File Name?");
wordFile = new Scanner(new File(fName));
wordList.loadWords(wordFile);
but this does not work. I also tried just "wordFile = new Scanner(fName);"
