ShackCast 18: Mass Effect, Uncharted, Super Mario Galaxy, Rock Band, Remo Song

By Chris Remo, Nov 16, 2007 5:25pm PST ShackCast 18 starts off with some discussion of this week's news: upcoming Ghostbusters and Terminators games, the upcoming Kane and Lynch movie, downloadable Xbox games coming to Xbox 360, dates and prices for Rock Band downloadable content, and the just-announced spectator mode for Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii.

There are also substantial impressions of BioWare's Mass Effect (X360), Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy (Wii), and Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3), some goofier-than-usual reader mail, and a Jam Sessions contest song by Remo, with lyrics by Shacker AndyGoin.

  • The best game demo I remember was the original Half Life. They released it bundled with video cards (ATI if I remember well) like 6 months before its final release, given its multiple delays. It had original content not repeated in the game but it gave a very good taste of the game to come. I played it like 30 times. Another demo which I played to death was Dark Forces, the first FPS in the Star Wars universe, it came in a magazine DVD in a period when DVDs were not common, also like 6 months before the game release.
And talking about new exciting games for next year, what about Star Wars: the Force Unleashed?. The concept video looks amazing, and the Wii version will be the first one to have laser sword fighting with the Wiimote..it can be very good or waaaay bad (Fingers crossed). Do you know if they will release it in PC?.

  • Faylor, I’d like to award you with the ‘most improved presenter’ for your effort on this week’s ShackCast. Just last week I was ready to come on here and flame you for not adding anything useful to the conversations, talking over everybody else and for your endless barrage of nerdy in-jokes. Wow. What a difference one week makes. Not only were a lot of your comments insightful, well thought out and delivered with conviction - I thought you contributed more this week than any of your co-hosts.

I still think the ShaCkcast has a lot of room for improvement but it seems like you guys are taking the feedback on board (both positive and negative). A few quick points I suggest is for conversations to stay on topic more of the time, and for people to not interrupt each other so much.

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to next week.

  • After many years of being on ventrilo with my guild, and my old teams in games like UT, and quake and such, its refreshing to listen to the shackcast, its kind of the same, gamers talking about games, and I'm really enjoying it. I just added the podcast to my new zune, and I've been listening to them at work and here at home while I roll around in beautiful katamari (which is not my type of game but im finding it strangely relaxing)

I agree with a lot of things you guys point out, but I have a lot of things I wish I could throw in there all the time, but its good, you guys have good convo.

Anyway just wanted to let you know keep it up, this is my first subscribed podcast. And from the one a few weeks ago, I completely agree with the bouncing tits stuff from GH3, why is that in guitar hero ugh.
