Replay Couch 5: Glitches, Exploits, and Mario

0
Welcome to the Replay Couch, where we kick back and watch the best, and worst, of recorded video game history. Each week we'll be offering up a compilation of compelling captures from the world of insane speed-runs, chance kills, competitive moments, and hilarious happenings from the past and present.

Be sure to check out last week's edition for more crazy digital stunts and creative stupidity. And now, on with the show.

Crysis is a fantastic game, and its soldier AI is highly advanced. So advanced that each trooper has his own backstory. For instance, this group of buddies grew up on a mountain together. They also like to drink. A lot.

This glitch, which allows The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past to be beaten in mere minutes, apparently involves hitting up and down on your controller. At the same time.

This clip made the rounds a few weeks ago, but it's worth revisiting. A leftover remnant from the Japanese title 3D Fighter Maker, this is a look inside the world of two of the most influential polygonal masters of their respective artforms okay just watch this crazy shit.

This clip isn't really significant in any way other than how elusive it was in 1996. I had always heard about the hidden secret on the roof, but for a long time, I didn't believe it. Watching this piece of evidence finally puts that chapter of my life to rest. Warning: MARIO 64 SPOILERS.

Impossible Video of the Week: Mario in Hell (link to this video)
It's Dante meets Mario Bros. in this always-entertaining exercise in futility. Watch as one unsuspecting player repeatedly attempts to conquer Mario Forever, a torturous mod of the original game. Forget what you know about unforgiving levels, and look on in quiet lamentation.
