Supreme Commander Confirmed for Xbox 360 in 2008

Officially confirming statements made to us by Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games, publisher Aspyr Media has announced that PC real-time strategy title Supreme Commander is in the works for Xbox 360. Vancouver-based Hellbent Games, founded in 2006 by former Rockstar Vancouver/Barking Dog Studios designer Christopher Mair, will be handling the port.

Due in early 2008, the Xbox 360 port of the game will feature newly-created units, maps, multiplayer modes, and interface and HUD elements. Xbox Live-based online multiplayer will of course be supported.

"We believe that we¹ve raised the bar for RTS gaming on the PC and now, co-developing with Hellbent Games, we know that we can do the same on consoles," said Taylor in today's announcement. Last month, Taylor characterized Xbox 360 as "the platform of choice for moving stuff from the PC." He acknowledged the strategy genre's control interface obstacles on consoles, but stated, "we're getting closer and closer to that touchdown."

Aspyr will be publishing Supreme Commander on Xbox 360; it will be the company's first game for Microsoft's current-gen console. PC version publisher THQ does not appear to be directly involved.

I've never played SupCom, isn't it pretty complicated? I wonder how well it'll translate to the controller.

It's one of the most complicated games I've ever played and also one of the most boring.

It quite literally sends me to sleep.
No, no exaggeration as in actual sleep - within minutes of playing, it seems like work to play it to me :/

Same here. Total Annihilation did the same. Snore.

So i'll stick to the micromanegement RTS games. Like Starcraft 2.

All RTS games do that to me pretty much. Even World in Conflict and Company of Heroes.

No, you see I loved COH, War 3 etc - it's just SC which seems so... well boring.

I think World in Conflict is the least RTS RTS game that has ever been made. There's little more than selecting units and blowing shit up.

Don't get me wrong -- I love the game immensely, but I'm just saying it shares very little in common with most rts games.

It's pretty complicated until you release all of the non-experimental units are exactly the same.

some people feel that way about chess too, while others find it fascinating. Too each his own, although I also found SupCom to be a little on the Boring side. CoH and CnC3 are fun though

I'm pretty sure no one feels that way about chess, since every chess piece is not exactly the same.

I think he meant that some people like RTS's and others can't stand them, like Chess. He just meant to reply to abrasion's post

We're not talking about the genre. We're talking about Supreme Commander being poop. Therefor he is wrong and we'll have to burn him. Sorry.

Yeah, I really like the rts genre. SupComm was crap, though.

Considering how gigantic the UI was and how complex the controls could be, I'm really intrigued as to how this is going to work.

The only thing SupComm had over Starcraft was number of units.

The rest of the game was shit.

Saying a game is shit is means it has some major flaws, what exactly makes a AAA title like Supreme Commander "shit"?

          Be as specific as possible.

If you mean the performance, then yes I agree the performance was shit.

Eh, this is shacknews where you either think a game is the second coming and was created by the Devs just for you, or you think it is the shittiest game you have played, no middle ground.

The one thing that stands out most to me from SupCom is the annoying sounds. Hundreds of units, all of which have the same generic laser sound when firing weapons. doo doo-doo doo doo-doo-doo doo doo. It was like having a rapist convention in my ears. DALETED
