Toshiba Denies, Undenies HD DVD Xbox 360
by Chris Faylor, Oct 26, 2007 11:26am PDTAddressing rumors that Microsoft and Toshiba are prepping HD DVD-equipped Xbox 360 for late 2008 or early 2009, Toshiba has offered up two very different responses. "It's got nothing to do with us," a Toshiba representative told Stuff. "But we know Microsoft doesn't want to include the HD DVD drive so as not to limit the user's experience." However, the version of that story found on Stuff's official site tells a less definitive tale. "Toshiba has no comment to make on this matter," the rep said the second time around. "The Xbox 360 is not a Toshiba product." According to Engadget, that first comment was later replaced because it was a misquote, and Toshiba's UK PR company, Nelsom Bostock Communications, has been asking sites to take it down. What does it all mean? That's a great question. It could be anything from a Toshiba rep being unaware of Microsoft's plans to the company merely covering up a comment that makes HD DVD look kinda bad. One thing's for sure: with the Xbox division finally profitable, don't expect Microsoft to slow down whatever plans it has anytime soon.

Are they saying the HD DVD drive would limit the user experience and therefore MS doesn't want it? If so, how does this make any sense?
