        I hear on that router the antenna is already amplified. Boosting it artificially isn't a good idea I hear.

        by increasing the tx value you're putting more stress on it.
        so there's risk of overheating.

  You can always make a cantenna. Failing that the linksys signal booster works very well.
  
  But at that range you shouldn't be having any problems :(

        oh, that is a good point. If you have the router set up for WPA but your wireless adapter supports WEP only, it will be very slow. Try changing that around or disabling security for testing purposes.

        Well, if that's the case you are kind of fucked. However, the linksys signal booster will probably help out a lot. I've seen it boost signal from 2 bars to five bars and is very easy to setup.

    I have a G router and live on the third floor. I was able to connect at 4 bars downstairs in the parking lot, about 70 feet from the stairway.
