Capcom Unveils Redesigned Bionic Commando

by Carlos Bergfeld, Oct 15, 2007 5:44pm PDT

A current-gen update to Capcom's 1988 grappling-hook sidescroller Bionic Commando will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, Capcom has announced. No estimated release date has been given to the project. Like the original title, players will use a grappling hook to traverse levels designed for vertical ascent. The new title will be in 3D, of course, and the grappling hook has been updated to feature more practical uses--like dispatching foes and heaving vehicles across the city. Swedish developer GRIN, responsible for the PC versions of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series, will head up the development of the title. Hopefully, GRIN will as skillfully implement the grappling hook as Capcom did in its third-person shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

  • Holy fuck, it's about time. :) I would love to see the character control scheme with the grappling hook to be something as advanced as Assassin's Creed seems to be as far as having total manuverability within
a 3D environment (or how about q2 ctf as far as the hook goes). However I hope Capcom and the developer don't forget that what made the original so special was the totally fucked up ending. It was so incredible blasting Hitler in the face while he tried to escape in that Russian chopper. Maybe they could be really ballsy and make the end boss our current V.P. !

    P.S. Bring back Super Joe.
