Last Oblivion Downloadable Content Free on XBLM and PC Next Week

Finishing off the slew of downloadable content available since the launch of Bethesda's immersive RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the Fighter's Stronghold will be the last piece of content the developer releases for the game. Fortunately, the domicile of the Fighter's Guild will be free to download on Xbox Live Marketplace or the Elder Scrolls website for one week starting Monday, according to the announcement on Bethesda's blog.

The stronghold is the fourth dwelling-themed expansion, following the Vile Lair, the Thieves Den, and the WizardÂ’s Tower. Obviously aimed at the the kind-hearted pugilists of the Fighter's Guild, a quest will allow players to inherit the rustic Battlehorn Castle, replete with dining hall, training center and shrine.

The blog also referenced the PlayStation 3's lack of any downloadable content for Oblivion, saying the recent Shivering Isles expansion may be available in some form soon, though it's unlikely any other kind of downloadable content will materialize. "I can't say definitively yet that it will happen, and I definitely can't say when," the blog post reads. "But it's looking good, and hopefully we'll have good news soon."

At present, PlayStation 3 gamers looking to play Oblivion complete with the Shivering Isles expansion can wait until next week and buy the Game of the Year edition of the title, which includes both Shivering Isles and the Knights of the Nine extended content. The standalone Shivering Isles retail version for Xbox 360 will also hit stores next week for gamers somehow living without Internet access, though it still requires a hard drive to be playable.

After its week-long debut in which it will be available for download free of charge, the Fighter's Stronghold will be available for an unannounced price, though the past three domicile packs have cost 150 Microsoft Points ($1.88) on Xbox Live Marketplace or $1.89 from the Elder Scrolls website.
