Deus Ex Chat Report

RPGVault has some highlights from last night's chat with the Deus Ex team (gotta scroll down a few items on their news page). Here are some things which are kinda interesting about this Unreal-engine powered game from ION Austin:

- You can't drive cars or boats, but you can be ferried around in helicopters.
- NPCs remember things from earlier in the story.
- Players can choose the character's "real" name, skills, augmentations, skin color, play style, approach to conversation and allies, and weapons can be heavily modified. Much of the character customization occurs in the game, not before.
- The AI is based on Unreal state behavior combined with some home-grown tools and systems. Every NPC has distinctive behaviors and can switch between those behaviors based on thngs he sees and hears. Sight/sound management was added to Unreal to facilitate this.
- The game will not ship with multi-player.
- It's theoretically possible to complete the game without killing anyone, although you'll be treated badly and will be tempted.
- The game will be fairly long, especially for players who like to explore every corner of the game world.
- A demo will be released after the game ships.
I'm sure later today a full chat log will pop up somewhere.
