New Command & Conquer FPS On The Way?

In a job posting on the EA Jobs website (thanks GameSpot), Electronic Arts notes that it is looking for a sound designer to join the team of a "next-generation first person shooter game." Nothing unique about that, except the summary refers to the project as "C&CX," possibly indicating that EA is taking another stab at bringing Westwood Studios' popular sci-fi strategy game franchise Command & Conquer to the shooter genre. The game would mark the second shooter spinoff in the Command & Conquer universe, with the first being 2002's Command & Conquer: Renegade, which was met with lukewarm reception. The details in the post give no indication if the title will be a sequel to Renegade or a new spinoff, describing the project as "a high profile new intellectual property." The next release in the Command & Conquer series will be the Tiberium Wars expansion pack Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, retailing next year. For some old-school Command & Conquer action, download the full game of Westwood's Command & Conquer Gold on FileShack.

  • C&C : Renegade has one of the best concept ever made. The universe from C&C put in a FPS-style of game is a good idea. However, the game was made too fast so many glitches were found. The engine is poor and I am sure that it would have been one of the most played games out there if the game had a good engine and was not as bugged. You could even friendly fire your teammate even if the option was turned off. You have to enter in a vehicle, press E then immediatly shoot and stay out of your vehicle before the projectile reaches a building, a vehicle or an infantry. You could also impersonate someone and make him banned if the moderator was too stupid to differentiate the IPs or the ISPs and would not unban the real player (Nickname/IP/serial match). The real person would come in the server and have a ban. It depends of the server. The graphics were not too bad in its era. If you hated the quality, you just had to go in the options and put it higher, but the frame rate could suffer. No anti-cheat was brought with the game. The community had to build their own. So far, we have seen 3 Anti-Cheats. 1. RenGuard (Now bypassed very easily) 2. BlackIntel Anti-Cheat (Bypassed by the Rate of Fire object hack) and 3 Renegade Resurrection, the best anti-cheat now. Renegade Resurrection fixes the netcode and the friendly fire exploit. You also get a better frame rate and a better ping. This anti-cheat not only block cheats and work at a low level. It has a server side version and a client side version. So, if there is a copy of Renegade laying alone in the corner, try it with Renegade Resurrection. The amount of cheaters in Renegade Resurrection servers have reduced to at least 90% if not 100%. There is still a community of players playing this game from GameSpy and Westwood Online / XWIS. This anti-cheat has already their 1.0+ version. In 2007, they were in a testing phase. We are now in 2008 and they have well improved. Tiberium should not experience that and the best bet would be to mix Renegade and its BF2142 to the mix. People who wants to command and the other who would like to play more in a Renegade style. It would bring up the two kind of people to discover the style of gaming they don't know. I agree that Renegade is awesome. There is also a mod that you could look at and it's Renegade 2007. It uses the UT3 engine and the authors add stuff that Renegade lacked. So, if Tiberium will not be up to your expectations, you can alway look there and wait for its release. I am sure that Tiberium will have a good impact.
