Wipeout HD Screens Show Pretty Hovercrafting

SCEA just sent along the first batch of official screenshots from SCE Studio Liverpool's futuristic PlayStation 3 hoverboard racer. Offering a "best of" selection of tracks that that spans the whole ~~WipEout~~ Wipeout franchise, Wipeout HD will be available as a download from the PlayStation Store later this year. Aside from running at the delightful combination of 1080p and 60 frames per second, the game features eight-craft online multiplayer, tilt-sensitive Sixaxis functionality, and rumble support when combined with the upcoming DualShock 3 controller.

Man I miss The Designers Republic's design work they did for the first three. They had a great style. I have a couple of posters of their hanging on my wall, as well as a mousepad and keychain from their online store.

Dammit. I was gonna buy a PSP just for Wipeout, now I'm faced with buying a PS3 JUST to play this one, too.
