My arrival bears heavy news in hand, for the Shack community has been rendered a challenge by those rapscallious lads at Valve. Yes, we have been asked to bring our Team Fortress 2 skills. Now here's the thing, they pwnt the Goons. We can't go down like Goons, I mean criminy. But we will need to bring our best players, and if I were to silently wolf around the question, I'd say pros only. I know I'll be sitting out. They seem to be coming into my pantry under one of the base shoots. Not like a million of them, but you know, enough to know that they are coming from somewhere and that I have ants.
I'll look into an exterminator but are there any immediate things I can do to get some antshwitz death camp setup? I was attacking with the Dyson or a bit but that is annoying and you can only get the ones you see doing that.
Should I just burn my place down?

n{Hersheypark Shackmeet on October 20th in beautiful Hershey, PA]n
Everybody with in a day's drive should travel the Hershey Highway and come to this shackmeet. Hershey is a great place to visit and I'm not just saying that because I lived there three years. I'm saying that because when I did live there, I didn't bother coming to at least 3 shackmeets.
So, what am I doing? driving 6 hours from North Carolina to be there.
Please let ThomW know if you even have an inkling of coming. There will be Hockey Madness in the evening as the Hershey Bears play the Rochester Americans, if anyone is interested.

This same developer I refer to, many years ago, played myself and best friend in our very first 2on2 game in Quake1 - the result of the match was I believe 100+Frags - 0 Frags (DMM1 Rules, DM6 + DM2?) it appears that The Goons felt a similar feeling to me that day when playing ValveDevs in TF2. Currently I'm developing a framework which can be configured by a textfile. Classes listed in the textfile are dynamically parsed and loaded:

Background: I hate the entire diamond industry and all it represents. There's no way I'm spending 2 months of my salary on something so useless and uninteresting. It's all marketing bullshit to me. Ok fellow shackers, here's your answer to what FOV is once and for all!!1oneone11!
I've encoded a video, it's about 21mb and explains it, hopefully clearly.
You'll see how things zoom in with a tighter fov and how it affects your mouse movement and feel.
Hopefully you'll notice the claustrophobic effect of a tight FOV.
I used extra large figures to exaggerate the effects but to make it more clear, the difference between a tight and loose FOV, you will note that 75 and 90 are somewhat close (no denying it) but you will be able to spot the difference, none the less.
Also: you may actually prefer FOV 75, you might prefer 35! this isn't about the debate, it's just a display of what it is and how it works.
You'll also note the most zoomed in FOV I chose, just how much your eyes will feel in front of your head and also why it might make people sick.
Finally, hopefully once you see this and then stop, look away from your computer and look around your house you'll notice what FOV a human has and how something (kind of) similar to what we have makes things feel more fluent and easier to control.

uhm, i'm trying to get a tf2 server up and running. it's on a nice server with nice bandwidth. all i have on this server is the hldsupdate.exe file for dedicated servers. i run it like i'm supposed to and this is what i get:

Somebody tell me I'm a retard and what I'm doing wrong, please. It specifically says you don't need steam or anything installed so all I should need is that one file, right?

The hackers have already started. I was just playing (Maarten joined me for a bit, hi Maarten!) on a server and some asshat named Karby was going down to our documents on 2fort, and magically switching teams to repeatedly capture our documents. Hopefully the server logs and such can help Valve out because that kind of shit is just lame. :(

When a previous developer thought it was a decent idea to name most of the library classes "class MyClassName"
The lib directory for this Symfony project looks like this
MyBadWords.class.php
MyCategories.class.php
MyFlightStats.class.php
MyMasthead.class.php
etc...
And yes, the classes contained therein are actually named that way. Oh, can I also complain about the stupid ".class" meta crap in the filename? Ok, good, because it's stupid.

I sign up for a 3 month that runs from July -> September. It's good, I like it, but by the beginning of September I haven't heard anything about an extension. So I stick my resume out there. Go on a few interviews. Last week they tell me they are extending me a couple of months, to the end of November.
So I'd go back on the job market at the beginning of December.
Yeah that sucks. Anyway, I get an offer on a job - they want me to start the beginning of next month. Woo! I call the recruiter and tell him "Hey, I got an offer, but I like what I'm doing now, so if they want to extend me long term or bring me on permanent, let's do this thing." They get back to me saying that the position wasn't going past november, but if I left the project it would be "catastrophic" and that it would really damage the recruiting agency's relationship w/ the client.
Anyyway, the recruiter guy starts guilt tripping me about "doing the right thing" and all that crap. Baaaaaaaaaaaah.
