In a keynote speech that opened the Tokyo Game Show this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai confirmed the existence of the rumble-enabled Dual Shock 3 controller. The shocking announcement was accompanied by a time frame: the controller will debut in Japan this November, with a Spring 2008 target for US and European users.

A few of the games listed as compatible with the rumble feature were Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid Online, and Ratchet and Clank Future. A large list of already-released titles was briefly shown, with titles like Warhawk confirmed to be receiving functionality updates in the future.

"One of the largest voices of our users was that htey wanted the addition of the vibration feature on the Sixas controller," said Hirai to the large crowd, in a speech largely devoid of revelations. "At the beginning we thought that would be very difficult technologically... however, we have been able to overcome this difficulty... This will be a new way of enjoying the PS3."
