Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Sep 10, 2007 6:00pm PDTYes yes.. I've missed you guys too. I'm looking forward to giving Quake Wars another shot when I get back home in a few days. Of course I've still got to play through BioShock and finish Prime 3... hmmm. Things could be worse!

By teh time we were done we had 12 machines, all running windows XP or Mac OS X, fully loaded with office, child filters, account control, and high speed internet access. the rest of the crap we loaded up into a big truck and carried back to our warehouse to be disposed of environmentally. They had a lot of crap as you'll see in the pictures here:

All in all a great day and I feel really good for what we did for them despite it being one hell of a pain in the ass :D

Well, he's now updated with the recent goings-on: http://www.michaelrighi.com/2007/09/05/papers-please-arrested-at-circuit-city-followup-1/
Not too much yet, as the legal process takes a while, but homeboy is serious about this, taking out a loan against his house and everything.
The part that got me was at the bottom, though:
If anybody is still confused about why I choose to live my life based on principles, I recommend that you read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. If only this world had more Howard Roarks…
I will refrain from commenting on that further, save for that I found that particular tidbit... interesting.

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0, and I want to split up an existing class into two partial classes. I know that I need to add the "partial" keyword to each of the new partial classes, but is there anything I need to do to make sure that VS2005 knows to compile them both into a single class? I'm thinkin of the <@ Page > directive at the top of the ASPX page -- right now it has a single filename in the "CodeBehind" property, but I'm wondering if that needs to change.
Anyone?

Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, ET:QW, CoD are all great. But what if you had warfare with results? Think of it: You have a website with background information regarding the start of the war. From there a map that shows the current battles (possibly progress as well) and you click on which ever one you want to enter. The developers could be in control of planning/plotting how the story unfolds, but the players ultimately determine the outcome of the battles. You'd have set times, say a month at a time, where the statistics from the battles are tabulated and the results point to the next phase of the war. You could allow for character development if you like, but it wouldn't be required. Medals could be awarded and so on. As I said, the battles would simply rage on until the next phase. There could be a cooldown time, but that may not be needed.
Has anything like this been talked about?

A character that doesn't talk. I really really don't get that. It screws up the experience for me. I think a) if you're going to put your character into a big story where there is a lot of supposed conversing with other characters, create conversation options to respond or b) just make them say SOMETHING or imply that your character is a mute. Or c) make a doom(not doom 3) like game where their are no other conversing characters and you're all alone.
A good example for me, is Half-Life, which I still love. But every time someone says something to me, it feels dumb that nothing is said back... Am I alone on this?
Imagine in the future (possibly) some game creator creates a tech where you can speak into a mic to respond, and get a somewhat natural response form the npc (with limitations of course). But in the meantime, GIVE MY GUY A VOICE.
/end rant

They played the levels shown before but of the version that was rated AO. It gives a nice description of what was changed to allow its eventual release in October.

The question is, what are YOU going to be playing (and why)?
Me, I'm playing Hellgate: London, As much as I loved Team Fortress, the other parts of the Orange Box aren't that interesting to me, and I could really go for some Diablo-style action-RPG hacky-slashy-main-a-thon goodness.

Thanks for all the replies to that for a system setup. I think Im going to get this build and its right at my budget of around 1450. I really would like to bring that down some more but I cant bring myself to lower anything from the video card (I want to keep it along time) to the motherboard (It supports DD3 for future use). But what about the CPU? Do you think its all that worth it for the next year or even 6-9 months to have a quadcore right now? Anyways, here are the specs:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM $69.99
EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB $529.99
