Doom Director to Helm Street Fighter Film
by Chris Remo, Sep 06, 2007 4:42am PDTFor you, the day Andrzej Bartkowiak was reported to be attached to the next Street Fighter movie was the least important day of your life. But for Hollywood trade publication Variety, it was Wednesday. Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 the Grave) claims previous game-to-film experience from his nuanced handling of the Doom adaptation and will direct a script by Justin Marks, who is currently also writing the upcoming Voltron and Masters of the Universe films. Filming on the Hyde Park-produced, Fox-distributed action film will begin next year. As well as his directing credits, Bartkowiak boasts cinematographic experience on Speed, Nuts, and Gossip (sounds like a decent Shackmeet). The film is already known to revolve around Street Fighter's Chun Li; actress Jessica Biel (Home of the Brave, Summer Catch, Stealth) was recently rumored to be a contender for the part. Earlier this year, developer Capcom announced its intention to bolster its relationship with Hollywood. In a shocking and unusual twist on standard video game plot devices, the film's Chun Li will embark upon a "journey for justice." Specific details of the journey, such as its departure point, destination, and scheduled time, were not revealed.

I remember watching the original street fighter movie in theaters. I had to be around 10-11. I thought it was awesome at the time. I probably shouldn't rewatch it today
