HBO Pays Real Money for Virtual World Doc
by Carlos Bergfeld, Sep 05, 2007 11:30am PDTHBO paid a lucky Second Lifer six figures to produce a documentary within the massively multiplayer fetishworld of the game, Reuters reported. The entertainment company acquired the rights for seven mini-episodes of "My Second Life: The video diaries of Molotov Alta," which will be released next year. In real life, Douglas Gayeton plays Molotov Alta--Gayeton will be receiving the considerable payment in real dollars for producing the episodes. The show is framed as video correspondence from a man who appeared in Second Life's wacky, depressing world after vanishing from his West Coast home. The series will include popular Second Life topics such as furries, cyberpunks, neo-Luddites, and sex slaves.
