Sony Ericsson Considering PlayStation Phone
by Nick Breckon, Aug 28, 2007 9:59am PDTThe head of gaming at Sony Ericsson is talking about a PlayStation-branded phone, and the more he talks, the more likely it seems. "It's obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment," said Sony Ericsson's Peter Ahnegard to Pocket Gamer, before stirring the mill further: "Before Christmas, certainly... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" Explaining Sony's position, Ahnegard elaborated on past phones labeled with brand names like Walkman and Cyber-shot, stressing that the brand carries with it certain expectations that have to be considered. "Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognised as a true continuation of that brand of products," added Ahnegard. "We're not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer." Either way, consumers should look forward to owning a PlayStation system that supports rumble out of the box.
