Hay Guys this is kind of an ePenis post, but not really so check this:

I went out and bought Bioshock for PC on launch day, and recoiled in horror as it choked the shit out of my PC. At the time I had an AMD 64 3700+ (single core), 2GB RAM, and a 7900GS. I guess it ran alright at 1024x786, but it was really hard killing splicers. It wasn't so much of a slideshow as it was having a six pack (or two) and trying to fight off ninjas. It just wasn't working out.

So, I decided that it was time to upgrade. I didn't want to shoot for a full MB+CPU+RAM upgrade (to C2D), so I thought that maybe a video card would do the trick. Circuit City had a sale on the 8800 GTS 320MB version.. so I grabbed that..

And recoiled in horror as Bioshock once again choked the shit out of my PC. I could fight splicers relatively well @ 1024x768, but not $300 well. I needed more.

So after some discussion on the shack steam chatroom (where there seem to be a shitload of people who don't even play games in that group), I was convinced that I needed to make the switch to dual core action.

So I did. Newegg had an AMD X2 4200+ processor for something like 85 bucks. lol.

SO I BOUGHT IT. I also ordered a 640MB version of the 8800GTS (dell had a sale it was like $340 bucks lol). Well, today at lunch both of those items showed up on my doorstep and I installed them.

Now, at 1600x1200 my framerate is ALRIGHT, but not STUPENDOUS. Same goes for 1280x960 and what not. Is my system just that shitty, or am I really expecting too much? I know I don't have the best gear, but when I read posts about how awesome Bioshock runs on people's systems with inferior specs it cuts me deep inside.

WHAT IS THE DEAL? DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE AN 8800GTS WITH A 4200+ OR SIMILAR PROCESSOR AND WHAT KIND OF FRAMERATE DO YOU GET AT HIGH RES??????????

Not enough Metroid Prime 3 love around here. Time to get some talking going on.

So I've just landed on the first world after completing the first 'level', and I'm mighty impressed with the controls. They're pretty hot, except that I still find doing a complete 180 a little slow for my liking.

Why can't console games just include a sensitivity slider and give the end user the freedom to tweak as they like? It's not a hard concept. But I digress.

Anyway I'm liking it so far, and the hand movements for certain interactions are also neat. The only thing I'm not so impressed with right now is the industrial look of the levels I'm playing. I've always found the organic designs worked best in Metroid, which is why Prime just blew me away. I'm not getting that awe-inspiring feel yet, although I have to admit there is a good sense of immersion going on.

What was your biggest Gaming letdown this year?

Mine would probably be my Wii. I loved the thing at first, but now I never use it. Strikers turned out to be not so much fun, but I still have to give MP3 a shot. I just wish there were more solid games for it I guess. Not to mention ever since I bought my 37" Westinghouse HD set I realize how shitty the graphics really are (coming from a 27" SD).

preliminary gauging of interest for FLORIDA shackers...

In the past, we have had shackmeets. Around october. In orlando. Specifically, halloween horror nights at universal. It's coming up! i'm going. Would any FL shackers be interested in making it a shackmeet again?? My partner in planning crime, celerity, has moved away from me, kikilupo hates people, and supermonkeyballz doesn't talk to me because he poked my boyfriends ex, so i dont know many FL shackers anymore, so i'm just throwing this out there.

And if you're old school enough, you'll remember hawkeye and you'll want to thank him for supplying the shack with pr0n back in the old days, and you'll want to go meet him, and maybe I'll let you make out with him a little.

Last week's $1200 in car repairs meant no BioShock for me (let that be a lesson to stay on top of that shit)

So I think I'll be getting it this weekend for the PC.

SHACK CONSENSUS: Steam or Retail?

I'm leaning towards Steam but since that version has SecureROM protection as well I'm not sure if the whole "no disc" thing means I should forego a physical product. Also it's on sale this week @ Circuit City, but after tax I'm only like $5 ahead. Plus now I'm a little concerned (and yes it's stupid) about buying games from an entity which could go away (though I don't worry about this for games where Steam is the only option).

So has anyone bought BioShock from Steam and regets it? Or vice versa?

OMFG...after 5 weeks of nightly labor, I finally managed to finish tiling my kitchen floor. I will never EVER attempt any such large project myself again. It turned out great and I got out of it for about 2k less than any contractor would have charged, but it was still a HUGE pain in the ass. I havent had a laundry room, or kitchen for over a month, my house has been in shambles, and my stress levels have been through the roof. My advice for any potential tiling "do it yourself'ers"; DON"T DO IT!
