Gothic 4 Is Spellbound
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 23, 2007 7:10am PDTJoWooD today announced that Spellbound Entertainment will be developing Gothic 4, the new installment in the role playing game series. Piranha Bytes developed the first three games in the series, but was unable to reach a new agreement with JoWood. The German based Spellbound Entertainment previously worked on PC titles including Desperados 1 & 2, Robin Hood and Airline Tycoon Deluxe. Gothic 4 is being developed for PC and "current gen" console systems. More details, including a release date, are expected in the next few weeks.

There's some new info on PB's next one as well as a teaser site and an art work.

the game is set on a volcanic and «forbidden» island. All character animations will be made anew, the game will have dungeons, traps, secret doorways and riddles.
The new game is again made for a single player and the PC. At the moment no other platform is in development. Whether the game will be made for DirectX9 oder DirectX10 is still undecided. The graphics engine will consist of some licensed components but most of it is being developed by Piranha Bytes itself.
I suppose it's possible that PB was sick of working on that series, though... after three iterations.
