Illusion Rats Out Mafia Sequel

Sating the desires of vicarious mobster action fans, 2K Games announced today it will publish Illusion Softworks' Mafia 2. The sequel to 2002's Mafia: The Lost City of Heaven, the game will retail for PC and current gen consoles at an unannounced date. "The 'wow' factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. The title will place wannabe Cosa Nostra members in the same mid-20th century setting as the first game and feature driving, gunplay, and other gameplay mechanics. 2K released several screenshots along with the announcement.

Mafia was the most underrated game evar. Great story and graphics! I remember beating the racing part without having to cheat. Must have played that part a hundred times though.

Sweetness! Just played through that game again a few months ago, one of the best ever. I don't think the race was that hard, you just couldn't mess up at all. I love racing games though, can see if you didn't play them much, how difficult that level would be.

I mis-judged the original I first, I thought it was GTA in the early 20th century, so I was disapointed by the different feel of the city and driving sections.

But it's really the movie Mafia lifestyle brought to live! :D

Great moments:
* Frantic shoot out in the church
* Shotgun firefight on a stormy night at the farm
* Get away driving whilst hanging out the window taking potshots at the car behind!

Mafia on PC is one of my favorite games of all time. Looking back, the controls were a bit clunky, but the way the story was unfolded...the narrative itself, the GRAPHICS, I fuckin' loved that game. I sat in front of my 17" CRT monitor with a pair of headphones on for literally three days on end until I got to the last level, then like an idiot, I had the ending spoiled for me on some forum and I never beat it. I also remember having to cheat to beat that impossible race mission.

Awesome. Looks great too. The best part about Mafia was really that you could just go inside places and have a shootout or something. Good story too.

I hope this one is just as good if not better.
