The BioShock PC demo is now available for download on FileShack. Here is your thread to anticipate things and things. Firstly, it's been made very clear that you are going to need the latest NVidia or ATI drivers for your videocard. So here are the links that you will need :

With the help of Limelight Networks we will be pushing some pretty massive bandwidth for Mercury members for the demo. Feel free to grab a download accelerator if you are a Mercury member. The Quicksilver servers support them and the BioShock demo will be available there.

To those who don't know, If you like this demo you simply must play System Shock 2, though it is an older game, there are updated gfxs patched floating around the net.

The gameplay is extremely similar, almost the same(cept Plasmids = Psy-Ops)

System Shock 2 is easily in my top 5, this demo makes me want to play through it again for like the 50th time.

I'd really like to know how this runs on an 8600GT... With the dinky 250w PSU in the box I built for my wife, it's the best I could do (and it's a stretch) for now. I hope Bioshock doesn't choke on it.

If anyone from Irrational is reading, thanks for taking the time to put out this demo for the PC. I was on the fence on whether to wait until I built a new machine to buy it, but will end up buying it sooner because it runs very well on the current machine I have at work.

And as an artist working in the industry, tears welled up during the elevator ride down to Rapture. You are making the kind of games I desire to make someday.

I've played both the 360 demo and the PC demo. This truly a great game regardless of your platform of choice.

It seems like Bioshock was designed with the 360 in mind and the PC version is more of an afterthought. In my opinion the game experience will be much better on the 360 if you have a nice HDTV with home theater surround. It just feels more engrossing and theatrical under that setup.

Well started out awesome - smooth and beautiful - but I can't get past the stairs after the burning couch falls down them - I get about 1/2 way up them and my video card (8600 GT) shuts down - computer stays on but the video card tanks so I have to reboot =(

Brilliant. Runs like butter on my nice new box. Old school dual core Pentium at 2.2 GHz, 8800 GTS 320, 2 GB RAM. 1600x1050 with everything maxed. Smooth as silk. Bring on the morning so I can go grab the real thing.

There will be chat threads for this one as the days go on, I hope. This is the kind of game you want to talk about.

The new Vista drivers suck. They suck worse than the prior versions. Running Vista 32bit on an E6400 with an 8800 GTS 640MB and 2 GB of RAM. The drivers crashed 3 times while playing.

I was hoping I might be able to play at 1920x1600, but it's not to be. It was just way too mushy. Scaled down to 13xx X whatever the hell that was and it was much more playable, other than the whole video driver restarting itself 3 or so times.

I'm gonna try it on my Mac Pro (running XP Pro) and see how it runs on the X1900XT

Tried running the demo again with new beta Vista drivers... While it feels like the demo became a little bit more "smooth" compared to the old 163.11 drivers, I still get FPS dropping into low 20's in some scenes :-( I guess it's time to head on to Newegg to buy yet another piece of Nvidia's hardware...

Where's the gore? The 360 demo had huge swaths of blood all over, the same spots in the PC demo are squeaky clean? I saw a few spots of blood but nothing like on the 360.

Well, it's not tooooo bad on my single core 3700+ @ 2.64GHz with 2GB ram, 7800GT OC running vista.
Sound pops pretty often and there are some hitches and slowdowns. But that's at 1680x1050 on high, lower and it'd probably run good.

360 seems to use the high textures and stuff so I'll be getting the 360 version to play it on a bigger screen with a better stereo system and such. Maybe I'll pick it up on Steam for PC when it's $20 and I've upgraded my system.

If you install the game in its default directory and have the bink viewer installed, watch this:

One observation on the difference between PC and 360: the hacking interface. On the 360 it's a swap kinda deal; on the PC, it's click-and-drag.

I think I prefer the mouse (as usual.) But after playing Puzzle Quest, I can't help but feel that a stylus would be the ideal thing for this minigame.

I don't really see much of a speed increase using the Quicksilver link... I tried with a download manager and without and I'm at 1.0 MByte/sec. I'm usually at ~2.5MByte/sec with Fileshack.
