Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Delayed
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 10, 2007 7:02am PDTFuncom today announced that its upcoming MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been delayed. Previously expected to be released some time this year, the game is now scheduled for a March 25, 2008 release. "We naturally regret that we have to push back 'Age of Conan.' However, after careful consideration, and analysis of recent Beta feedback, we believe that the new release date is in the best interest of the gamers, our company and our owners," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "We are fully committed to delivering games with absolute qualities, and in the current MMO marketplace we know that only the best is good enough to truly succeed. With the new release date we have therefore given ourselves more time to meet and deliver on the massive expectations for the game. We are certain that our choice will ultimately pay off, and that all 'Age of Conan' players will get a special online experience."

There are two possibilities (that I care to discuss) for this when a game claims to be 'completely different.'
1. The feedback says they are just a clone. It plays just like any other knock-off MMO. Funcom could have decided they aren't different enough to survive and is going to rework some things.
2. The feedback say they are crap. Sure it's different, but the differences just don't work. The new combat model etc sucks for the genre and the rest of the things just don't cut it. Funcom could either decide to rework it to make the new things work...or they could scrap the innovation and make it more typical.
My biggest fear for this game is that it turns out to be just a clunky version of a typical MMO. I WANT it to be 'Gothic Online' but as time goes on it turns into less and less of that.

A good thing, I think. I don't know what condition its in now, or if it can be turned into something fun, but its far better than releasing a steaming heap.
Very True.... They'd had better be very, very good to challenge WoW.
