Rage Publisher Not Yet Determined

8
At QuakeCon in Dallas, Texas, id Software's Todd Hollenshead informed Shacknews that no publishing contract has yet been signed for its just-announced internal project Rage (PC, Mac, PS3, X360).

Hollenshead's statement contradicts reports from various online publications that longtime id publisher Activision has been tapped to release Rage. When asked for further clarification, Hollenshead stated that the lack of an existing contract does not necessarily imply that Activision will not publish the game, merely that nothing has been determined.

Check back on Shacknews in the coming days for more from Hollenshead and id designer Tim Willits on Rage.

The steam deal could actually be part of the reason they haven't signed a publisher yet.

right, but someone still needs to publish the console versions... unless they are planning on exclusive digital distribution for the first month or something...

That deal only covers Doom 3 and games prior to Doom 3.

Okay, it does ? Thanks for the info, I didn't know that, someone from id I believed mentioned something about "upto Doom 3" or something. Anyway in that case I will rephrase that: "That deal only covers released games.".

it's all "id software" titles... Q4 was Raven. The other title missing is Heretic 2 or Hexen 2 I think...

man, that would suck ass to try to download that sucker with everyone else on the day it came out. They are gonna have at least 10-18GB of data to download. Valve is gonna need to buy lots of temporary BW to cover that release.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Must be two DVDs in a box. I'm not buying it bottled up in Steam if it comes in disc form. Steam isn't half bad as an online distribution model, but I don't want all my eggs in one DRM'd, proprietarized basket.

I don't care if I have to send away to have them burn an installer to DVDs specifically for me. All my Id titles must be on optically pressed aluminum.

Besides, imagine having to sit through a download of what is effectively 20 GB of textures. Yeah, not very fun.
