Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Jul 24, 2007 5:00pm PDTSo for the first time in about a decade I'm actually going to get a bit of a vacation from tomorrow afternoon through the weekend. I'll still have to carry my phone and have a laptop handy but I will allegedly be taking it easy. We still have a long ways to go with where all these changes are heading but I think we're in the right direction as far as content goes. Still lots to fuss with as far as user experience. I have a fair amount of stuff written up for you guys to give you a feeling of what we are up to. If I get antsy perhaps I'll finish that up while on vacation. I'm hoping to at least get it out here before QuakeCon. So then, for the evening:
- Wireless USB incoming
- NBA ref stuff continues to amuse
- TiVo HD is here
- SexOffenderSpace
Daily Filter: Planetside 2, Deadlight
Weekend PC digital deals: strategy-o-rama
38 Studios, Harry Potter Kinect - Shacknews Daily: May 25, 2012
Minecraft for Xbox 360 dev working on 'Adventure' update
Demon's Souls servers extended again
AWESOME
tldr; If you don't mind not staying in the Anatole, more money to lose at QCon poker if you use travelocity

The 3 opening bands were rather poor (though holy crap the Echoes of Eternity chick has huge cleavage -> http://loud.weblog.com.pt/arquivo/EOE_2.jpg )
Symphony X though, made the late start and annoying opening bands all worth it. Mainly due to Russel Allen. Now, one reason I'm a huge metal fan is because of the instrumental work. I've been to many metal concerts and usually I spend much of my time watching the musicians. Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Queensryche, Opeth, Sonata Arctica etc etc. However, I found my eyes glued to Russel Allen (the SX singer) for nearly the entire time. The musicians in Symphony X are some of the best in the biz, but it was definitely the Russel Allen show. he has incredible stage presence and EASILY the best metal/rock voice I've heard live. He owned the stage. He's a huge guy too, over 6 foot and built like a tank, or a warrior of olde I suppose. I hear he does RenFaires and stuff. Anyways, the music, ending up with the 24-minute "The Odyssey" was amazing.
If you are lucky enough to be in a town where Symphony X is playing and you even minimally like their studio work, GO SEE THEM. They put on an unforgettable show. Did I mention the lighting yet? Best lighting I've seen. Russel Allen is the most charismatic frontman I've had the pleasure of watching. What a wonderful end to my time here in Minneapolis. Sorry I didn't get to see any of the other minneapolis/st paul shackers there.

But at 19 he was painfully shy and eager to change his behavior. In one exercise he staked out a bench in a park near his home, determined to talk to every woman who sat there alone. In one month, he said, he approached 130 women.
“Thirty walked away immediately,†he said in the Times article. “I talked with the other 100, for the first time in my life, no matter how anxious I was. Nobody vomited and ran away. Nobody called the cops.â€Â
Though he got only one date as a result, his shyness disappeared, he said. He similarly overcame a fear of speaking in public by making himself do just that, over and over. He became an accomplished public speaker.

What's the deal for updating Windows to whatever is the latest release/update?
Sounds kinda iffy to me. I prefer the Stardock method where, if you preodrer, you get the beta.

If they're simply sending back fixed 360s (not the one you send them) why, exactly, does it take so long? I'd really like to have mine back because I know exactly how it was taken care of.
Oh well, at least I have a working console (for) now...
