Sega today announced Bleach: Shattered Blade and Bleach: The Blade of Fate, two fighting games set for release on the Wii and Nintendo DS, respectively. Based on the hit anime series, the Bleach titles follow the exploits of a fifteen-year-old named Ichigo, who has the power to see spirits from the afterlife.

Combat in Bleach will be primarily sword-based. On the Wii version--developed by Polygon Magic--players will be able to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as weapons, as well as use special powers and summon supernatural allies for support. Fights will take place in 3D arenas, with multiplayer combat planned for inclusion. Over 30 characters will be playable, with the voice talent from the television show reprising their roles.

The DS version, developed by Japanese studio Treasure, will feature 28 stylized characters. While Bleach: The Blade of Fate is a traditional 2D fighter, split-plane arenas will allow players to travel between multiple levels of a battlefield. Spirit Card decks can be built and used strategically to trigger power-ups. Some form of co-op gameplay will also be supported, allowing players to "take to the streets battling against enemies in fast-paced combat," according to Sega, although a specific method (local or online Wi-Fi) was not listed.

Both games are set for release in early 2008. Sega sent along a few screenshots of the Wii version of the game, in addition to some DS screenshots.
