SCE San Diego Eyes PSN Development
by Chris Faylor, Jun 20, 2007 2:57pm PDTSony Computer Entertainment's San Diego studio is now dedicated to creating downloadable PlayStation Network titles in addition to yearly editions of Sony's MLB and NBA franchises, reports Gamasutra. Speaking on the studio's non-sports development staff, SCE San Diego director of production Jim Molinets noted, "Internally, we have shifted our focus from doing large-scope PS2 and PS3 titles to doing PSN titles exclusively. We've got three smaller groups now, and they're all doing very differentiated products with different requirements." Sony's online PlayStation Network store sells a number of classic PSone games and downloadable PlayStation 3 titles, featuring such games as thatgamecompany's flOw, Sidhe Interactive's GripShift, and Incognito's Calling All Cars. Slated to arrive on the service later this year are Slant Six Games' multiplayer-only SOCOM Confrontation and Incognito's multiplayer-only Warhawk, which will also receive a simultaneous retail release. "Our maximum team size is ten people, so we really utilize the strengths of all the different people within the studio," Molinets continued. "Because the team is smaller, the dev cycle is smaller, and because our expertise level is high, we may be able to address things...very quickly, as opposed to having to wait for a full two-year product cycle."
