Microsoft sends word that the strategy title Band of Bugs will see release on Xbox Live Arcade this week. Developed by NinjaBee, the studio behind the XBLA titles Cloning Clyde and Outpost Kaloki X, Band of Bugs features turn-based tactical gameplay set amongst a microscopic world.

Choosing between a story-based campaign, stand-alone missions, skirmish maps, and four multiplayer modes, players must lead their bugs to victory tile by tile. A level editor will be included with the game, allowing the use of custom levels in multiplayer matches with up to four players online or locally.

Nominated in the Technical Excellence category at this year's Independent Games Festival, the project was formerly known as Bugs of War. In an interview with Gamasutra earlier this year, Band of Bugs lead designer Jeremy Throckmorton detailed NinjaBee's goals for the game. "We wanted to make a game that was accessible to more casual gamers who had never touched a tactics game, but still appealed to fans of the genre," he said. "I think we met these goals."

Band of Bugs will be available for download on Wednesday, June 20th.

Heck yeah -- this game looks really cool. Reminded me of FF Tactics, plus it has a map editor.
