Evening Reading

Well rumor has it in the comments we're apparently up to something sneaky with all this silly Shack stuff... needs more blog.

Lastly, apparently Safari for Windows didnt get a very smooth start.

Steve Gibson is the cofounder of Shacknews.com. Originally known as sCary's Quakeholio back in 1996, Steve is now President of Gearbox Publishing after selling Shacknews to GameFly in 2009.

I really dislike the lines along the posts, indicating parent/child replies.

any idea if you guys will be able to fix the safari bug, where the page scrolling jumps around every time you click a post? i'm probably going to have to switch browsers if not :(

yeah, that bug is immensely annoying. also, the left page margins for the comments blocks seem pretty small, so it's uncomfortably close to the window edge.

gorgeous redesign otherwise though. well done guys!

I think they needed a little bit more indentation, but it could just be my eyes.

The lines which demarcate -- left side of the screen -- posts in relation to each other. I think they make the page too 'busy,' but am just not used to it.

That said, I wish there were an option to turn them off, but I realize that's an annoying thing to request; I don't mean to be unappreciative of all the work everyone has put into it.

It is infinitely better than having a plethora of numbers cluttering the screen.

As of now I just feel like indentations are enough. That is, the new shack comments system without the lines, or with lines much less apparent.

That said, Haiku makes an important point that the text will probably overpower them.

Last I'll say of it, I promise:

Is the new PRL system where it just says "wait awhile" going to be the way it is or are we going to get some kind of counter system?

I would like to see a commercial produced for the new shack. I envision one where a guy is reading the current shack and gets rejected by a girl, then Maarten appears out of a poof of smoke in a genie hat and curly-toed boots, taps the guys monitor, the new shack appears, and then the dude gets the chick because the new design is so hot. Maarten would still be standing there eating a pop-tart. This would amuse me.

no, there is no flat mode. In fact there is only one mode to view the threads.
