Famitsu reports that an update for the PlayStation 3 version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will enable players to battle it out in an online Versus Mode. The new multiplayer combat will also be accompanied by ranking boards, allowing players to move up the ladder with each victory.

In addition to the networked features, the game will see the inclusion of two self-explanatory offline options: Survival and Practice mode. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection was released last March for download on the PlayStation Network. Critics generally praised the game's action, but were quick to point out its lack of a practice mode, as well as the absence of any online capability.

The update will reportedly run Japanese Tekken 5 owners 1000 Yen ($8), while the full game with multiplayer included will cost 2800 Yen ($23). The original game is currently priced at $20 on Sony's PlayStation Store. No release date for the upgrades has been confirmed.

This is the first time I've ever been tempted to own a PS3. I'm a huge Tekken fan, but even so I'm still balking at the price tag.

I've got to say that though Xbox Live is more impressive than PlayStation Network (obviously), when it comes to downloadable material PSN is seeming a lot more promising to me even though it's obviously younger and so has less total material. Better prices, more full content, no download limits, more full-scale original development.
