New Junction Point Studios Site Launches
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 06, 2007 5:29pm PDTWe received an email noting that the Junction Point Studios website has relaunched. There is no information on the games the Austin-based studio has in development, but the site does have the company's mission statement and a list of current job openings. There is a more extensive mission statement in the company blog, where, among other things, company founder Warren Spector reflects on Junction Point's attitude towards narrative in games. "Story or no-story, our efforts are driven by one critical concept: Unique player experience is as important as developer creativity," he writes. "By 'unique player experience' we mean that, rather than being funneled down a predetermined, puzzle-strewn path, players are confronted with problems solvable in a variety of ways. Our games allow players to explore, experiment and express themselves through their solution choices—and we show them the consequences of those choices. If we remain true to these ideas, no two players will end a JPS game having had the same experience." Last month it was revealed that Spector and movie director John Woo had teamed on a movie and game property called Ninja Gold. The Junction Point site has a "weekly pic" (mirrored to the left), which seems to be a piece of concept art from this project. The site also features three images which Shacknews has confirmed are drawn from the development of the company's unannounced fantasy game.

I agree gameplay by far the most important aspect to any game, but not only has Warren Spector demonstrated he knows how to make great games with stellar stories, but they're fun as well. I expect this ninja game to have a damn fine story worthy of an Akira Kurosawa flick!
