Need for Speed ProStreet Announced
by Maarten Goldstein, May 31, 2007 5:49am PDTAs was expected, Electronic Arts today announced development of the latest installment in the Need for Speed franchise, Need for Speed ProStreet. The EA Black Box-developed street racing game sequel promises an increased focus on the series' Autosculpt technology, as changing the looks of a car will now have a direct impact on its performance. A newly released trailer also seems to indicate an expanded damage model for the game. "Need for Speed ProStreet accelerates street racing culture by providing the ultimate stage for the pursuit of street racing supremacy," said executive producer Larry LaPierre. "This is a game about building the ultimate performance-tuned battle machine, taking it to multi-disciplinary showdowns all over the world and pitting your skills and reputation against the very best street racers." Need for Speed ProStreet is set for release on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, and PC this fall. You can find screenshots here.

Hopefully a return to cops and crazy getaways, hopefully no return of the "crew system" and ridiculous overpowering motion blur.
I think all anyone wants is a combination of hot pursuit and most wanted. I don't understand why they seem to ignore the fanbase.
NFS:Carbon was the first NFS I've ever not played apart from the demo, I am really really hoping they turn it around.

Need for Speed is not about the "street racing underground culture". It's about exotic cars that you can drive really fast in picturesque locations. What they should do is a NFS: World Tour. Grab the best cars from each region of the world and go tearing around the countrysides (avoiding and disabling the authorities in each location).
Continue where Most Wanted left off. We can just act like Underground, Underground 2, and Carbon are like Superman 3 and 4.

Who the fuck wants to 'accelerate street racing culture' when you can run from the 5-0 like that?

Please, EA, if you really need to do street racing, please create a different franchise for this (maybe "Need for Speed Street: blah blah blah"), but then create true NFS games that feature wide-open courses in more natural environments.
I want something that sits between the arcade-ness of Burnout, and the realism of Forza/Gran Tursimo. You had this perfect in Hot Pursuit 2. Consider starting from here for the true NFS series.
