New Q3 Point Release

Carried this one over from last night. The pre-test of the alpha for the forthcoming beta of the pre-build of the next point release has been released by id Software. Here is the .plan update by Robert Duffy, and here is a list of all of the changes for the release. Here are the files for ya: Mac Release, Linux Release, Win32 Release. The files are all around 3-4 megs. For the guys running linux servers out there, Zoid has a .plan update that you should read on the topic of auto-downloads.

  • Here\'s a MAJOR point release bug I havn\'t seen mentioned as of yet. If you\'re playing a 1v1 with someone, and another player joins but gets rejected, you see an error message that says
    \"<playername> Cannot validate pure client!\" but the person\'s frozen shell will actually join the ongoing game for a total of 3 players.

    All during the time the booted player\'s frozen shell is still on the server, the score will not change regardless of how many kills or suicides any player gets,
    and several minutes later when the shell finally times out, it forces the match to restart!

    Anyone know id\'s bug-submission e-mail address?













  • i combined all the bugs that we noticed from last nights messageboard into a email and sent it to robert duffy. anyone notice any other annoying bugs that are not listed here might want to mail them in, if no one says anything they\'ll never get fixed.

    a few other things that need to be corrected, some that i notice, some gleaned off of the shugashack message.

    - in spectator mode when clicking from person to person and having your ATTACK/FIRE key bound to a mouse button it sometimes cycles through two people (perhaps it registers a downclick and than upclick as well? I know it doesn\'t shoot two rockets or two plasma balls when I fire in game. This is a bug I posted on shugashack and numerous people agreed with me that that happens to them as well.
    - need to remove the You have Fragged <name> in Tourney mode as it\'s quite obvious who we fragged as it is only one on one (small annoyance)
    - perhaps we could get the record feature fixed so that we don\'t have to type g_sync...., record <name> g_sync.... like the good old days when i could just type record <name> into the console and that was that instead of having elaborate binds.
    - a big annoyance for me at least is that say a person is going for the same item as you are, you both reach it at the same time, on your screen you register the pickup sound as well as see the icon appear in the bottom left saying you have picked up the item, you go to switch weapons and suprise you don\'t have the weapon but your enemy does and he takes you out. This is on a 50ms ping and other people experience the same problem. I understand it\'s probably the prediction or whatever but it\'s a bit annoying.

    The following are off of the messageboard they are not written by me.

    - whenever I frag someone in quake 3 arena, I only hear the death2.wav for that model, even though there are 3 death wav\'s for each model.
    - single player does not work correctly with g_doWarmup turned on
    - the \"teleport to the other side of the door\" is a hideous, sloppy solution for spectators not being able to just pass through doors - spectators just plain interact with the game strangly at times (taking on characteristics of the client, etc.)
    - there should be a \"SPECTATOR spectator\" mode for tourney mode where you are just observing and are not part of the queue waiting to play
    - warmup countdowns behave strangely sometimes after map_restart
    - a permanent \"spectator\" option should be included in the menus so you can join any game as a spectator from the start
    - sometimes unnecessary map reloads occur (like if you\'re playing the same map several times in a row, why couldn\'t it just do a \'map_restart 0\' instead of reloading the whole level?)
    - Fix bot chat so they don\'t tell you to get the flag when they have it themselves.
    - fix multiplayer menu so that when you get a server you dont like you dont have to refresh the whole fucking list again.
    - added feature to show names in servers so players dont have to connect to a lameass server that run bots all fucking day, only then to have the customer refresh all the servers again

    I included a weird demo I have of the level restarting for some reason, it retains my frag count in the top score window at bottom right however when I press tab it says connecting for everyone. everyone could play and when a new person joined the server it showed his ping and score but for everyone else it showed connecting however we were playing. No idea why it happened, i was using the new q3 patch running on a nonpure 1.15c server, soon after the new patch release so i\'m pretty sure the other people were still running the old client and yet they could play too.

    I like your game however and these patches are definetly helping to make it more playable I hope your map add on pack that you are doing or whatever your current project is will add some more good levels cuz we need em bad.
