With Windows2000 coming out today, Gamecenter has an article taking a look at the OS from a gamers perspective. Also, an article a couple of days ago about 63,000 defects in Windows2000 caused quite a bit of stir, enough so that Microsoft has put out a response to the claims stating of course that the reports were inaccurate. "...does Windows 2000 have 63,000 defects? The answer is a flat no. There was an internal development paper that described a broad set of focus areas for the team that mentioned the 63,000 number."<snip>

  • Microsoft claims Win2k is faster - than what? NT4 or Win9x or both? Intel says you need a faster CPU for Win2k than NT4 but Intel has demonstrated they will say anything whether it\'s truthfull or not to sell you a high-profit CPU (\"Don\'t just get on the Web, get into it\"). ZDNet says Win2k runs their little benchmarks 15% faster than NT4 but I trust Ziff Davis to make buying decisions about as far as I can throw them. The few gaming sites that have done Q3 benchmarks have consistantly shown Q3 runs slower on Win2k than on 98. Consistant results from several well known gaming sites I do trust.

So, is Q3 running slower on Win2k than 98 just early drivers and will it get faster as better drivers come out? Or will Win2k always be slower than 98 and the claim of \"better performance\" just another Microsoft lie?

Speaking of lies, there are three kind: Lies, damn lies and benchmarks. Thank God we have Quake to use as a honest benchmark.

  • The funniest thing is the article over at ZDNet News by the reporter whining about how Microsoft wouldn\'t answer her requests for context and clarification on a leaked memo.

Hmmm... Let\'s see. This is lanuch week of Windows 2000... Maybe they are a little fucking busy? LOL

Just another ZDNet hack report having a pitty party because they couldn\'t get what they \"deserved\" and it made them look bad in the end. While ZDNet LOVES to run Microsoft ads, I\'ve yet to see them publish an article that wasn\'t biased against MS. Since they started moderating their talkback, I\'ve noticed that they censor any replies that point out obvious problems with their reasoning in their anti-microsoft articles.
