Evening Reading

There are many things in this world I would holla at. I'm pretty sure funnel cake is up near the top of the list. I mean it's not really grape cotton candy or something like that but it really does deliver pretty well. This fine Friday evening I'd like you girls to reflect on your week, those pants you wore the other day, and how you can make the world a better place. Oh and read this stuff:

Lastly, supermarkets of the FUTURE!

    Dammit I got ER'd.

So 'half five' means 5:30, not 4:30, right? As in half past five?

This British girl keeps saying things that mess with my head.

I'm pretty sure in German that expression would mean 4:30... so who knows. Never heard it used like that in English though.

I've only heard "half past" and "half of" which would be 5:30 and 4:30, respectively.

They're both shit though, just say five-thirty

It's not a British thing... it is how we used to tell time before all this digital shit... half past, a quarter of... etc.

An Australian pal of mine says "Thursday week" instead of "next Thursday". I didn't understand what the hell he was talking about the first time he dropped that one on me. Usually dialect differences are pretty transparent.

It means next week on thursday not just next thursday. Like if it was tuesday and he said "next thursday" it would be thursday next week, not the coming thursday.

          err

he said "next thursday" "thursday week"

          sorry.

In your example I would definitely say just "Thursday" for the one that is 2 days away, and "next Thursday" for the one the following week... that's why I equated it with "next Thursday"

I see what you're saying though.

Yeah I've heard the coming thursday referred to as 'next thursday' sometimes though, which does make sense. I'm not sure what the correct usage is.

      "Next Thursday?"
      "You mean this Thursday?"
"If I meant this Thursday I would have said this Thursday!"
