Blizzard Offers WoW-themed Visa Card, Reward Program
by Chris Faylor, May 04, 2007 2:16pm PDTBlizzard Entertainment and First Bankcard have teamed to deliver the World of Warcraft Visa credit card. Billed as "the card that pays you to play," the card entices players with 13 snazzy WoW-inspired designs a free month of the MMORPG following its initial use--but that's not all. In lieu of a traditional credit card reward program--which generally offers items such as gift certificates and cash back--the World of Warcraft Visa earns game time, with 1% of every dollar spent on qualifying purchases furthering those Azerothian adventures. Going by other credit card reward programs, users of the card will likely need to save their reward points and then redeem them for certain increments of in-game time once they have accumulated enough. Beyond that, the World of Warcraft Visa appears to be a standard credit card. There is no annual fee, and after a year, the 0% APR shoots up relative to the cardholder's purchase and payment history. Those interested can apply at the card's official site.

Other games like Conan or whatever might bring huge, inventive gameplay variations on the MMO model but Blizzard will always be the guys wearing the money hats because they can think up shit like this.
