Human Head Relatively A-OK After Office Fire

by Chris Faylor, Apr 24, 2007 7:48am PDT

Following news of an early-morning blaze on Friday ravaging the office complex in which Wisconsin-based independent developer Human Head Studios resided, a posting on the studio's website has revealed the relatively minor extent of the damage. "No one was injured in the fire," the posting reads, "and though we suffered some equipment and furniture loss due to smoke and water, we suffered no significant data loss, as the brunt of the fire was located in another part of the building." "We're excited to let our concerned friends know that this speed bump won't keep us from continuing our development of great new award-winning product," the statement continues. "We will be relocating to a new office space for the short term, and we expect to be back in full development very soon." Perhaps best known for the gravity-shifting FPS Prey (pictured above) released on PC and Xbox 360 last summer, with the Xbox 360 version handled by Venom Games, Human Head Studios has also been responsible for the western-inspired FPS Dead Man's Hand (Xbox, PC), Norse mythology heavy action-adventure Rune (PS2, PC), and freeware title Super Duelin' Minivans! (PC). In addition to game development, the studio operates an Adventure Game Division, which focuses on tabletop experiences such as customizable card games, board games and role-playing books through a partnership with distributor Studio 2 Publishing. According to its web site, Human Head Studios only relocated to the now-destroyed office complex this past October. "After many good years at our old office space, we've moved into new, larger digs that are better suited to both our current and future needs," detailed a post from October 13, 2006. "Our new space was custom-built for us, with large conference rooms, spacious offices and work areas, as well as a brand new office theater with stadium seating and a killer sound system. It makes playing games and watching movies that much sweeter. Yeah, we're pretty happy here."
