  • How can the Q2 engine not show its age? Forget the addition of fog, a torch texture, and snowflake sprites. That\'s a low-poly scene. It\'s made up primarily of huge blocks. And its component elements are terribly familiar. Overhead ridges, water, a structure in the cliff face: kind of reminds you of Strike from Q2\'s single player levels, only gussied up. At PlanetDaikatana, there\'s also a pic up of a Centurion chucking a spear at you. Look at that relatively crude design: wherever you time travel in Daikatana, the year always seems to be 1997.

Now, what would be a fair price in 2000 for this? $9.99? $14.99? Do owners of Quake II get a discount? ;)

  • You have some valid points Xcalibur, I agree that the snow and rock in the outdoor Scandanavian areas look great, I should have clarified my opinion. Specifically, one of the current screenshots on PlanetDaikatana shows the a scenario from the Anicent Greek episode where the ground and walls resemble smooth, modern concrete. A doric or ionic colonnade would have been my likely choice, but then again, I don\'t possess the necessary faculties to create such visual features; nonetheless, I must criticize the use of anachronistic elements ( Centurions were typically Roman, altough similar soldiers exisited in Sparta under a different term..) ~ that\'s what a degree in Classical Studies will get you, kids...the ability to identify out-of-place elements in modern portrayls of Ancient Life..........
