Drive into a ped. The impact of them on your car dent's the bonnet but sends them flying into a wooden fence which splinters. The collision throws you off course and you fly into a brick wall which collapses and bricks fall onto your car. The engine catches fire and as you scrabble to get away, the petrol tank blows up and sends you and some peds flying over a nearby ledge into a river but one of the peds manages to grab on to the edge before they fall off.

keeping cars around is no issue at all; look at Crackdown. You smash up a car, get out and then die, and then respawn in a different section of the city and return and the car is still there.
