After a month of using Vista Home Premium, I have got to say I like it.

It's just like XP, but more polished, basically.

If I was gaming I might not dig it, but I have it on my work laptop.

What are the major complaints against it?

Does anyone know if MS plans to release the film rental/episode download service in the UK/EU ever? I'm kind of annoyed with paying the same amount (if not more?) for live and only getting half the features.

I'm sure they'll rape us with the price when they do release it but it would be nice if I at least had the OPTION OF BEING RAPED.

So I beat Stalker tonight. Overall, I loved it. The AI was probably the best I have ever seen in a game. It definitely made it feel like a real world. I definitely like how random wildlife AI is not there solely to try to kill you like in most games. The atmosphere was top notch, I love the wind blowing through stuff, all the broken-ass stuff everywhere, guys sitting by campfires chatting it up and playing guitar, etc.

The combat was also loads of fun, and they did a great job of making you feel like more and more of a badass without making it too easy. The ending was a bit sketchy and too scripted compared to the rest of the game though. The ending I got kind of sucked, but I can see how I fudged it. I got the ending where you make a wish for the zone to disappear, and go BLIND. OH WISHMAKER YOU SO CLEVAR LOLOLOL. :|

Overally, I'd give it a 9/10. It was right up my alley. Now, time to go work on Fallout 3 next month!

Almighty shack: XBox360 vs. PS3 thread!

My nephew said to my brother he wants a PS3 ("wants" in his way is persuading him for 3 weeks to already tell his wishes).
He's 14 years old and I'm no sure about it. All he wants to do is gaming and I don't think he's quite up to date about the game lineup of the two "big" nextGen-consoles.
Wii is no option because his room is too small. And playing Wii Sports on a couch is possible but major gay.

Background: He already has a PS2. He likes Final Fantasy. He plays WC3 on PC. He likes RPG - that's when I think about Oblivion and Bioshock for PS3.

Soooo my advise for my brother would be: safe the money of the PS3 and buy a 360 + falt panel TV.

What does the almighty shack think about this? Will the game lineup for the PS3 outrun the 360?

XBox 360 + Monitor Menz

I'm about to get an XBox 360 and a 24" Dell (2407WFP).

Will I have any problems running the XBox into the component inputs of the Dell?

Also, are there any recommendations on how to use my computer speakers (Creative Inspire 5200) in this setup? I'm guessing I'll need a switch to go between using the PC and XBox?

WTF is a freight damaged store?

My company exports certain goods to U.S. and a random dude fires an email at me that he found the products at this "freight damaged store" and he loved them.

So the words sound like a place where some rejected or damaged stuffs end up and if this is even close to the truth, it means a problem to the company. Anyway wtf is this place?

Why do the tops of the PS2 Dual Shock analog sticks rotate and spin around?

I'm playing God of War and just got to the rotating vertical pillars that you have to climb and my god is it frustrating. When im trying to hold my position and avoid the blades, my analog tops start spining and my fingers lose position. I hope this is over soon, I hate stages like this.

I can't seem to find any concrete info on how Microsoft's IPTV is going to work on the Xbox 360.

Who is going to offer it? How much will it cost? Will I get to choose the channels I subscribe to for a cost per channel? How about HD DVR? Isn't this a Time Warner / Cox / Comcast "competitor"? Even the MS IPTV site is very vague.

random question for you all tonight.. now granted, I'm going to go to bed right now, so I don't want to look like I'm hit&running here. And before I say it, no, there isn't anymore to this question... no background story, just me being curious.

Are you emotionally capable of impersonal sex? As in, let's say there's a society that doesn't make a big deal about sex. So, prostitution is legal, it's regulated, it's clean (ie no STD's) and let's pretend there's no negative social stigma attached to it. It's a steady, completely voluntary job for the workers, they're respected in the society as much as office drones are in a corporation. Going to a prostitute is the same as going to get a haircut in this society.

Now let's say you've crashlanded into this society... you're given a steady job, you're single, no ties left behind (you were a loser in your previous society and it doesn't look like you're going back there anytime) and now that you've got some disposable income, you walk across a brothel on your way back from the cinemas after seeing TMNT or some shit. Now, will you go into the brothel for some cheap, no strings attached sex? The worker can treat it as friendly business, or throw in some emotion for you if you want and pretend to actively cuddle.

Can you have that impersonal sex and enjoy it? Or is it that without the personal connection based on a built experience together (ie a couple that's been going out for a couple dates to years, however fast you roll) it's just a meaningless act and unenjoyable? What say you?

The reason I ask, is that I had this convo with my gf. She wouldn't be able to handle it, whereas I think I'd really enjoy the convenience.
