According to this post on the Gas Powered Games forums, a new update for Supreme Commander is now available. It fixes blue screen issues, and removes the SecuROM disc check feature among other things. Thanks Blues News. Update: you can find the patch mirrored on FileShack.

  • The AI never seems to produce a decent attack group or just doesn't use the units they produce well. All too often you win a skirmish and when the map is revealed you see half a dozen super units they built but sent off to the opposite corner of the map (multiple galactic colossi making long sea journeys is a classic example).

Once you build up a mobile defense group of bombers/gunships to take out whatever random stuff wanders your way, especially since no super units have super air defense, you basically get free reign. The only annoying thing is the spam of engineers or tech1 units (aeon tech1 hover tanks forcing you to defend everything) that would be impossible for a human to micro.

  • What kind of convoluted logic drives companies to implement things like Securom? They pay up front for the "honor" of "protecting" their software, then they pay in tech support costs for all the teething pains of legitimate customers who can't get the games to run because of it, then they pay to produce a patch removing the "protection". This seems to happen with every major Securom release. I'm not a business major or anything but wouldn't it help profits slightly if maybe they stopped paying for shit that is completely useless?
