S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GONE GOLD
by Chris Remo, Mar 01, 2007 10:14pm PSTAt THQ's Gamer Day event on Thursday night in San Francisco, THQ worldwide publishing executive VP Kelly Flock announced that development on GSC Game World's incredibly long awaited S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has wrapped, with discs ready to go into production. The game is now set for release this month. Originally titled the easier-to-type Oblivion Lost--when it looked like this--the game has been in the works for well over five years. THQ distributed a batch of screenshots at the event--now the game looks like this.
Update: For those hungry for any further S.T.A.L.K.E.R. media, here are three pre-rendered shots courtesy of THQ.

It was announced in 2002 - so it took five years to make the game. OK, but aren't there other games just as long in development? Aren't there other games from 2002 or before that are still in the works, haven't been released, and aren't as notorious for being vaporware as this game? I mean, a top notch full length AAA game these days takes like four years - just one year less than this game (and you can just blame that on a delay).
DNF is vaporware of the highest caliber - ten years and counting if you go by the 1997 school of thought (and even if you don't - nine years easy). TF2 is vaporware (eight years and a 100% change in design). S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is just a game delayed by a year with way too many previews.

But this game for some reason, even after years of previews - I'll wait for a demo.
Anyone else feel this way?
