It's Like a Heatwave Burning in My Internet
by Chris Remo, Feb 22, 2007 7:02am PSTAnother MMO-focused development studio was officially born this week, as Austin-based Heatwave Interactive announced itself and its general plans. The company is headed up MMO veteran Anthony "SunSword" Castoro, whose thirteen years in the games industry have left him with credits on titles such as Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach, ArchLord, and RF Online. During his tenure at Origin Systems, Castoro also worked in a QA capacity on non-MMO titles such as Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, Privateer 2: The Darkening, and CyberMage: Darklight Awakening. Joining Castoro in managing Heatwave is Donn Clenendon who, prior to several years away from the games industry, was involved in launching gaming ventures such as the Multiplayer Games Network (MPG-NET). "This is the most exciting time to be in the gaming business in the past ten years," said Clenendon. "With much of the industry rehashing the same formula hoping to realize the success experienced by a select few, a vast opportunity exists for Heatwave which is dedicated to creating innovative character-based experiences." Little is known about Heatwave's games in development, though this week's announcement states that the studio has "a library of original IP in pre-production." The company is currently soliciting investor offers. "This is not 'just another MMO' company," said Mr. Castoro about his MMO company. "The current crop of 'massively multiplayer' games only provides a glimpse into the power of connected gaming. Heatwave Interactive's mission is to create original games that unite the power of online gaming with the excitement of traditional single-player video games."

Champagne is nice because you don't drink it every day. If you'd drink it every day you'd spoil the experience.
