Happy President's Day! Very exciting, I know. Movie: Oh my god, Ashley! You're so totally winning!

  • Its not a broad dismissal, I'm sorry if it sounds like it. However, I play a ton of games, certainly any major release. Outside of jrpgs(I am sorry I can't stand the tedium anymore), I try most major Japenese releases in America. However, I have been disappointed time and time again. I just honestly don't think the Japanese philosphy of game design has changed in 10 years or so and its really getting to me as I am getting into my mid twenties.

Steel Battalion (Both reg and LoC), dead rising, chrome hounds, lost planet, those are just a few of the major dissapointments I have found in the last couple of years.

The only games that haven't been disappointing to me have been SotC, Okami, LoZ:tp, and NG:B. However, two of those are the equivalent of art house movies, and LoZ is one of the most antisipated nintendo games in many years. Hell I am tecmo fanboy, and was looking forward to DOAX2, but once again found nothing but disappointment(I liked the first one). Hell in that game they have the gall to charge people real money to unlock the freaking swimsuits. Once gain I find it a depressing game design philosphy that they would stoop to that.

My point is take a look at the MP in lost planet. It is a complete abomination of netcode and game design. Its fun as hell when it works, but that happens to be very rarely. You can't see other players pings, you can't tell where they are from, half the time there are 3-4 players in the game that simply DONT exist to you. For christs sakes sometimes you are playing PARRALEL games with other people. Its surreal and quite depressing. Then add in the frustrating knockdowns, serious inbalance of weapons given the rarity of the better weapons, and I really wonder who the hell is makign these things anymore.
