Empire Earth 3 Unveiled
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 16, 2007 7:15am PSTPC Gamer UK has posted an Empire Earth 3 preview, revealing that Mad Doc Software is indeed working on a new installment in this strategy game series. The game looks to be a bit more streamlined and focused, while offering a new campaign structure which is described as being somewhat like the one found in the Total War series. Four screenshots are included with the article.
The actual real-time strategy is also a considerable departure. While still based on historical fact, a broader, more exaggerated look prevails, much like you'd expect if Blizzard designed an historical RTS. And rather than the many civilisations previous games simulated shallowly, EE3's three generalised ones - western, middle-eastern and far-eastern - each have far more unique unit progressions and specialised hero types. [...] At this stage, everything seems more alive than in previous games. In the wake of the huge leaps forward made by Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander, this is exactly the kind of revitalisation to keep Empire Earth relevant in the modern age.

Petroglyph's Universe at War sounds like a really unique new type of RTS game, and now EE3 is looking to mix things up a bit also. I'm just wondering what Blizzard is going to pull with Starcraft 2, as well as what Big Huge Games is working on next. Oh, and I'd kill to see what Relic's follow-up to CoH is going to be. Hopefully we'll start seeing more unveilings soon...
