8So looking at Digg it seems that it's finally evolved in to what a lot of people were predicting. A traffic tool for the major tech sites. It's kind of a bummer but pretty much what one would expect. The comments make me cry.

It's an XBOX Live 3rd party app, that's really really nice. Popups for when people sign off/online, getting messages, when people are available to play, etc. This is much better than the implementation MS did with MSN Messenger. Enjoy.

We are going play Battlefield 1942 tonight! We will play until the game ends or the sun rises, whichever happens first.
The Battlefield server password is in themelon's profile. We also have a global teamspeak server for those who wish to use it. Teamspeak is optional, but if you have never had the chance to participate in a shackbattle with 60 of your fellow shackers trying to coordinate a full-scale war, you owe it to yourself to check it out at least once!
We also have an active shackmessage mailing list to provide information and updates on our games, as well as send weekly reminders for game times. If you would like to join the list, please reply in this thread and I will add you!

cheap dvd's and videogames $2. but no keys for online play. seems they just download and put on dvd, then sell! battlestations:midway on all the display monitors. oh, yeah, Roger Sanchez ripped the decks up friday night, was freaking fabulous. jug of redbull and vodka helped, as well as the lovely ladies!

I have an nvidia graphics chip in my laptop, i installed the drivers released by them when i first upgraded. It was all good, performance wasn't as great as it was graphics wise under xp but not bad. So i say to myself why not try the new beta drivers. I follow the instructions and uninstall the old drivers, windows then needs to reboot and installs its own generic driver.
Now when I go to install the beta, it says 'no compatible drivers found for hardware', so i go to install the old ones, i get the same message. I try to update the driver through device manager and it tells me its up to date even though i point at the newer drivers.
Also, when failing Vista lets you try to install again 'using recommended settings', so i try that, now the nvidia installer tells me i'm not running windows vista and that i need vista to install those drivers.
W...T.....F
Now i'm stuck with Microsofts driver that gives me a BSOD whenever i try to load a game.

can't say i'm a huge peter jackson fan after this. not that i was after seeing the bore that is the LotR trilogy (sorry, but 9 hours of walking... not that enjoyable).
-WAY too much fluff. why he turned a 90 minute movie into 3 hours... i'll never know.
-kong looked absolutely great! his animations were outstanding and his emotions were VERY well done. (what? i'm not gonna bad mouth the entire movie)
-what the hell was with the running scenes? they all looked incredibly fake and incredibly stupid. especially the dinosaur stampede scene. i really don't know how else to describe it.
-jackson has a thing for CG camera movement that COULD be great if slowed down. he did the same thing with LotR. huge, fast camera sweeps of an environment that look incredibly CG.
-the blending of CG & real life shots was terrible. kong may have looked great, but when they green screened naomi into the shot, it just looked really bad.
this movie relied WAY too much on CG. it's a real shame. i was really hoping to like this as much as the original.

Question 1.
My ipod is set to Melbourne time zone, but whenever I sync the fucking thing it goes 3 hours ahead in time!?
I set it to Beijing time and it works fine >:( but then each re-sync puts it back to Melbourne time and of course 3 hours ahead (the PC time is fine?)
Q2.
Can you download Xbox Live demos and burn them / copy them on to the Xbox?
I know you can download the compatibility updates etc :/ - I'd like to download from a source other than home to save on my meager download quota.

1) The graphics are pretty meh despite the rotten performance requirements. EQ2 has great but uninspired graphics. WoW has inspired but basic graphics. But Vanguard falls inbetween them and ends up just feeling bland. The animations and models just feel off too.
2) The sound is rather horrible. The music is ok, but there is no real transition when entering combat, and the sound effects themselves are basic at best.
3) The combat system just likes some omph. You don't feel like you are getting any real "feedback" when you are fighting. In WoW and EQ2 you at least "feel" like you are in combat
4) The game is still rather buggy and definitely feels incomplete. It's worse than SWG was at launch honestly bug wise. Youd think they would have learned.
All in all those 4 reasons will keep me from playing it anymore. It's a shame really because I do like the other aspects of the game and the huge expansive world. But, taken as it is right now, the game just feels like a buggy EQ 1.5 and not like a next gen MMORPG at all.

Let's talk details. What would you want to see in a web-based MMO focusing on Pirates? Here's some discussion starters....
-Should you start with a boat?
-Should you have a crew? If so, computer or players?
-Should there be an AI-adversary (i.e. Royal Navy that threatens to hunt you down or board your ship - making you have to manage how "famous or notorious" you are)?
-What about port-based activities (outside of trading goods)?
-Should there be a time-based turn counter (a la Urban Dead) or do you think there are better ways to manage the gap between "hardcore" and "casual" players?
-Anything else you'd like to comment on.
My initial thoughts are to loosely base some of the activities and roles off of the 'Space Trader' game (I had it on my PDA...not for sure what other platforms it was on).

My housemate is playing Oblivion and yesterday download the Spell Tomes pack.
Now, whenever he starts Oblivion his settings get reset back to "factory defaults". I.e. he loses his invert-y-axis setting, subtitles get turned back off, etc. Dunno if it's because of the DLC or not, but the timing is suspicious.
Anyone know more about this problem?

Can I convert a DVD to another format, like PAL to NTSC?
Although you can copy both NTSC and PAL DVDs with our software, you can't convert between formats.
NTSC and PAL are broadcast formats which are very different. The frame rate and resolution of each are not the same are require that the video be reencoded in order to convert between formats..
My girlfriend was in a orchestra concert, and we want to ship the home made dvd to her aunt and family in Romania, but they read region 2 dvds there. it was filmed on a ntsc camera, of course, and i don't know how to switch it from one to the other(pal)...
