3dfx At CeBIT
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 11, 2000 7:04am PSTSeems 3dfx is finally showing the Voodoo 4 and 5 in Germany later this month (Thanks Björn's 3D World). February 24 to March 1 the annual CeBIT in Hannover, Germany will be held again and 3dfx will be demonstrating the Voodoo4 4500, Voodoo5 5000 and Voodoo5 5500. Lara Croft will be there to promote it. Lara is currently played by Dutch hottie Lara Weller. 3dfx has also announced that those three cards will be out this spring, but there's no mention of the Voodoo5 6000.

wouldn\'t it be nice if unreal tourney didn\'t suck my balls?
wouldn\'t it be nice if q3 had a little gameplay?
wouldn\'t it be nice if q3 players were friendly to ut players?
wouldn\'t it be nice if some of us had lives to live?
wouldn\'t it be nice if ..
wait a minute.. these will never happen.. sorry folks..
If the V5 puts the smack down on the DDR Geforce, finances permitting I\'ll dump my SDR Geforce for one of them.
laggin behind in speed isnt goin to shit..
STABILITY is better than speed..
hehe
i want a comp that doesnt have problems with Geforce cards and agp problems...
athlon is good..
give its mobos time to catch up... then intel is da perverbial shitter
its the game
UT is a fucking shit assed glide engine with hax0red in opengl and d3d support
plain and simple
v4 and v5 wont rip it apart... maybe beat it by a few fps here and there but quality and future the geforce will win
#26 uh TD6 sucks.. hehe
15% rating pcgamer..
you know its gotta suck..
hehe go for NFS4 :)
Duh. Obviously the V5 (not V4) will rip the GeForce a new one. It had better, its a generation newer. The V5 wont be competing with the Geforce though (at least not for very long). And, yes, in my mind the only real thing the V5 has going against it is 3dfx\'s opengl driver. Lack of hardware T&L isnt great, but probably not a big deal if you\'re going to upgrade again in 9-12 months anyways.
I\'m definitely curious. I want Q3A 1024x768x32 at a steady 60 fps. Whose gonna give me that? NV15 or V5 5500?
GeForce perfect? LOL. Take a look at Unreal Tournament, haha. GeForce is tainted with compatibility and driver problems.
Either way, 3dfx\'s V4/V5 is going to rip GeForce256 to shreds. The only thing anyone could say is that 3dfx needs to work on their opengl drivers... but that\'s purely a driver issue which they may or may not fix by the time V5 comes around, since their abandoning MiniGl altogether.
Admit it, you are one of those 3dfx-fanboys trying to make the GeForce look bad, aren\'t ya!?!
MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh well, I\'ll be ready to upgrade this spring. It\'ll be interesting to see how this plays out between nvidia and 3dfx. The DDR ram that the geforce depends on has juuuust engough bandwidth for the current geforce clock speed/fillrate. If the clock gets upped to 166-175 mhz they are going to need some wicked fast memory or a wider memory interface or else its going to be sdr all over again.
I really dislike 3dfx now, not because their cards are suckier. In fact they are not, and Im sure the v5, and v6 will rip the geforce a new one...well so they say, but in terms of quality and consumer service they are very horrible. For instance, for the past 6 months before I got the geforce, I had to rely on those 3rd party opengl drivers to actually play quake 3 worth a damn. I heard 3dfx just finally got on the ball and thats too late for me. Thats why I wont run out and buy any 3dfx products for quite some time.
Anyway, if you want your new voodoo card, enjoy it, I just enjoy having what the v4/v5 promises...right now :-)
Probably not right away, but very soon after it\'s released if not.
Daikatana ----------hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha o wrong post!
-3dfx NDA hardware roadmap - THE NEW GENERATION!!
-Detailed Rampage and Sage specifications and hardware overview
-New Generation graphics programming techniques on shadows, lighting, and non-photorealist rendering
-In addition, roundtable discussions will be available for face-to-face meetings with 3dfx engineers, for detailed discussions on D3D, OpenGL, Higher Order Surfaces, shadows, and non-photorealistic rendering
I\'m intrigued! The Rampage/Sage info had better not be NDA. =|
i wanted to show you boys pics of nell mcandrew, but then i\'d rather save \'em for the GOTD =)
I still want to see if 3dfx can come back with a 1-2punch,for now nvidia
is the heavyweight champeeen in my book.
And all y\'all know that benchmarks are more important than KillCreek\'s fake ta-tas. (;
