Latest on Daikatana
by Steve Gibson, Feb 10, 2000 1:57pm PSTWell I guess it's about time we had a bit more of an update on the happenings at Ion Storm's Daikatana. As a number of people have noted there are advertisements and stands showing up at computer stores for Daikatana which usually signals an immanent release. The word on the street is they arent ready for release just yet though. Not good for Eidos as was mentioned about a week ago they arent doing so hot lately. A few people who are close to Ion have sent in word that Ion is considering not having multiplayer in the initial release and following-up with a patch. It seems doubtful to me but I'm sure we'll see soon enough. Also, looks like the KillCreek playboy stuff is delayed some more. Last I heard it's gonna be in the May issue now. update by Maarten: There's a new movie on Incitegames. It has appeared on their magazine CD before, features ingame footage and a few words from Romero and KillCreek, and is a 43mb download. update by Steve: As expected, the multiplayer rumors are false. both Romero and KillCreek made comments stating that it's 'ludicrous'. Considering they made an announcement earlier about the DM maps to be shipping...

*I know the millenium doesn\'t start till next year. Cool your jets tardhumpers.
Bake me pie.
Bake me a Romero;
thats always telling lies.
Fools! You know nothing of Daikatana. Had you ever dared to enter the Halls of The Ion Storm you would know that 2/19 ... 3/1, rather ... is the planned release date (or was it 3/18?).
In the below message, paragraphs 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 and 12 are mine. The rest are his.
[...] They, like most americans, do their job to make a buck.
Oh good lord.
Can you kiss John Romero\'s ass a little harder?
There are other companies that push back release dates - even more than once. But we get something good for the extra wait - wether it is jaw-dropping graphics, maddening gameplay or solid multiplayer. I was pissed when Half-Life was pushed back. But I waited and it only proceeded to own my sorry little ass. I was pissed when 3DR made the engine change because I knew it was going to be delayed forever. But I\'m sure you signed the deed to yourself over to Broussard and Co. once you got a peep of the new DNF shots.
Daikatana looks no different now than it did when ION did that stupid ass MPlayer demo. The graphics look like shit, there\'s no question there. Every screenie you do see, the monsters look like they\'re just standing there, waiting to be carved up by the FUCKIN DIME you have for a weapon. (Lol, I remember when sTeve first said this like 2 1/2 years ago) . I can\'t comment on how it plays because I haven\'t seen it. But Valve and Gearbox have raised the bar TWICE. Do you think Daikatana really has a chance? Be honest.
One thing that bugs me more than anything with this community is how two faced you guys can be.
Most of you people whine and complain about the developers when it takes longer than 18 mo to create a game
but you are also the FIRST ONES TO BITCH when a company
releases a half baked, ship now/patch later title.
With this in mind, maybe we should step back and look at the greater scheme here.
Remember the age old phrase: Good things come to those who wait. I would
rather wait on a product and get a fully polished rather than get it sooner and remove
it from my HD out of fustration due to bugs.
That\'s the problem! Who says us waiting for the Daikatana to be baked means we\'re going to get a Daikatana with no flaws in it? Who says us waiting for another 3 or 4 months is going to make that much of a difference?
As a community we should pass more judgement on substance
rather than hype -both positive and negative-
Well, I happen to agree with this. But I will say that it\'s better when people that don\'t have shit shut the fuck up about it. We\'ve heard entireli too much from The Romero and his little desk jockey.
here comes the part i get flamed about...As far as the snide comments towards KC are concerned--knock it off... most of you hairy palmed bastards will never know the joy of a real woman.
HAHAHA! You must be kidding right? If KC were REALLY all about being a woman, she wouldn\'t have bothered having JR foot for that extra hardware. She does NOTHING for gaming as far as I\'m concerned. She whipped Romero a couple times at Quake and ended up riding the dick. BIG FUCKING DEAL. I think that\'s the point that most people are trying to say here. She\'s NOBODY SPECIAL.

Daikatana has been an easy target to pick on due to the delays and
bad press surrounding it. I too am guilty of bashing it, BUT we do
need to stop and take a look past this negative hype.
Yes it has taken
a long time to develop, but I am sure that there is a very good reason
behind that. Its not like Romero and company DONT want to ship the game
and make there millions. They, like most americans, do their job to make
a buck.

KC is a beautiful woman who was nice enough to share her body -- (oYo) -- w/us.
...you rectal sniffing pudwackers should be thanking her for the new
sausage spank material not giving her shit about it. :)
is what my 3rd to last line is supposed to look like :)

where\'d you find that thing that talked about Planet Daikatana?
unless you didn\' read the whole post, which is likely
so in the future, try to at least get some sort of CONCEPT of a post before you flame about it.
personally, i think those things are funny as hell. How can you review a game that isn\'t out yet?
sigh
fuck it lol
THIS is quality...
In case you don\'t know the \'stuff\' about Daikatana, check out PlanetDaikatana.com for everything on this incredible game-to-be. Yes, i along with many, many others have waited for this marvel of gaming an unbelievably long time but i (also along with many others) believe that this is going to be great. The only people who would say anything less than \"Wow!\" about Daikatana are really missing a lot of the information that has been posted on the Daikatana message boards. Once you understand the facts, you start to believe the hype...
or try this one on for size . . .
This game will kick butt!!!
This game is gonna rock! I\'ve played the demo and I like it better than Q3 or UT! The Bots are smart and the AI is very good. John Romero made the games that started it all (Doom 1&2, Quake, etc.) so you know itÂ’s gonna be good! I canÂ’t wait for this game!
here\'s a good analysis of a GAME THAT ISN\'T FUCKING OUT YET GET A CLUE
Daikatana? Never heard of it...
Daikatana. The name is synonymous with computer gaming history. It is unlikely that anyone who is into pc games hasn\' heard of this game. You know that it features four distinct worlds, each with their own weapons (24 in all)and over 64 monsters, and that you\'ll have two AI controlled characters to aid you in your quest. However, what we don\'t know is what the HELL went wrong with Ion Storm when they were developing the game! What seemed revolutionary three years ago when we first heard of it, is now nothing really special. Daikatana has been surpassed in terms of graphics, gameplay, story, and quality. However it is a fun, action packed game, but it doesn\'t revolutionize the genre in any way.
Pros:Excellent weapons, lots of monsters,action-packed intense deathmatch, ability to give AI characters specific orders, superfast framerates.
Cons:nothing new (point/kill),poor RPG elements, story isn\'t involving.
so you\'ve heard it all from the experts. Order now!
