More on PS3 / Cell:

I've started porting the old flops 2.0 benchmark to make use of SPEs. I'm kind of curious how you Cell and PS3 junkies in the audience would go about doing this.

First, the benchmark is double precision floating point. I'm going to do a module at a time and randomly started with module 5, the description of which is below:

The actual work loop looks like this.

(variables with capital letters are constants really)

It's a relatively linear operation. Out of curiousity, I put that loop into an spe module, and built it. Performance was around 28 MFLOPS (compared to 500 or so on the PPE).

It could be any number of things, I don't know if looping is handled by the spe gcc compiler (it's got to provide the corrent branching hints and so on) but how would you guys go about vectorizing this for Cell?

Kurashasa: The cat lik Kurashasa are "outsiders" from another plane. Engaged in a crusade against an enemy they've followed to Telon, they won't leave until the enemy does. Evil but honorable, they have a cool racial feature called a "symbiote" they've picked up on their trans-planar travels that allows them a limited form of defense when the symbiote is activated covering them in a black film and infecting nearby mobs (yes, exactly like Venom).

The Kurashasa are mounting a charm campaign with the other races of Telon to help them finish off their enemy, the AhndÃ¢Â€Â™ka. Having visited Telon in the distant past and left a not so favorable impression, they have their work cut out for them.

So...if you don't have Sirius Radio...I highly recommend it.

I have family that have had it for a long time and I've actually owned the device w/ a gift card for over a year and FINALLY activated it...and, well it rocks =)

Numerous amounts of channels, especially if you're into NFL (or other sports), and you can pause and/or rewind music!

Any suggestions regarding A+ certification?

I've been working on PC's for.... a long time now and never really saw the value of this particular certification. However, apparently if I get the A+ I can then get some vendor specific (Dell) certification that allows me to order warranty parts without hasseling with Dell tech support. I don't do much PC repair at my job these days (graduate assistant takes care of it for me), but the office is paying for it all so I figured it might be worth while.

I'm assuming that the A+ test has enough obscure topics in it that it will require some studying. Is a weekend of studying enough? Are there any particular books or online guides that might be useful?

Was talking about Star Wars at work today and how sad it was that the first two, SO excellent, were followed by Ep. VI (meh), and ep. I and II (horrible).

I remembered a friend telling me recently that although she agrees about Ep. I and II, Ep. III was actually good. I have refused to watch it because of I and II, but on the off chance she is telling the truth, is there ANY redeeming value to Episode III, or would I just get pissed off again and I would be better off watching one of my Chuck Norris movies?

So.

Game = installed. I migrated my characted to Azuermyst since Lightbringer was waaay too populated (lastnight). I hop on to the brand-spank'n-new sever and those penises have disabled Character creation.

What is a good way to explain to lay-people how DPI works, especially in regards to printing images and why 72dpi doesnt work.

I have to reject a lot of artwork at my job and explain that we need to print at at least 300dpi, and I can never really think of a really dumb-simple way to explain it.

Credit Card dudes ...
So, i got my first credit card with a 1000 dollar limit on it just before Christmas and, as you can imagine, with gift purchases and what have you i went a little overboard. I owe 558 big ones and while i could easily pay it off all right now and still be in good shape, i was just wondering if paying the minimum would put me in a bad credit rating. I know interest will eventually catch up to me, but the thought of paying 558 dollars all at once kind of chokes me up.

Music Menz!

Anyone recommend a good program for helping find duplicate songs? My library is huge and a mess, I'm sure 10% of my stuff is duplicates back from the Napster days or free downloads from the web that are the same song but with slightly different info, file name, or length, etc. :(

Sorting this by hand would be a nightmare (a very long one).
